Product Description

About These Strings

D'Addario Chromes Bass strings are wound with flattened stainless steel ribbon wire which is polished to an incredibly smooth surface. Delivering a distinctive damped, but a tone-rich sound that only flatwounds can produce, D'Addario Chromes are the world's most popular flatwound strings.

All D'Addario strings are precisely wound around a hexagonally shaped high-carbon-steel core wire by computer-controlled machines guaranteeing clear intonation, rock-solid fundamentals, and incomparable consistency in every string. The tight core tension produced through this rigorous quality-controlled process results in a harmonically rich, longer-lasting string.

nice and smooth

Have tried flatwounds on six stringers but never on a Bass before. I was getting annoyed with the over brightness and "scratchiness" of round wounds on my Bass so decided to try flatwounds. Should have done it years ago. These D'Addario strings are nice and mellow without losing any treble. They are smooth to play and there is no string noise when moving up and down the fretboard. That is a major plus for someone like myself with short fingers on a full length neck. For the price these strings are certainly worth the money. Only had them on for a short while but all the signs indicate they will stay on for a long while.

Excellent product, very reasonable price and suits the instruments they were designed for. For bass players who like the smooth mellow tone and easy play style of the flat wound strings, these are for you. Rated AAAAA

Great service (again)

Okay, this isn't a review of these strings per se (although they're great if you want the more mellow flatwounds), but I just wanted to comment on the service provided by Artist Guitars. When I ordered online, I had a moment of brain fade and ordered medium length, then realised 30 minutes later that I really should have gotten longs in the D'Addario range. Rang AG in a panic, and the guy I spoke to (Allan) sorted it out courteously and promptly - just asked me to send a confirmatory e-mail, which I did, and this was responded to quickly, assuring me that the stuff-up (which was entirely mine) had been rectified, and the correct strings were on their way. All credit to AG - these guys understand the importance of the little things like responding to e-mails, and answering the phone promptly etc., and that is why I order online from them, even though I have local music stores (for whom, sadly, real customer service is something of an alien concept).
