Product Description

Artist Twangler Single Coil Pickup Set

Featured in our ATV2 series, the Artist Twanglers are a great addition to the line-up with the power to completely transform your tone!

These are particularly hot single-coils, with a stinging “over-wound” sound that responds beautifully to the volume and tone controls of your guitar. With enough output to drive the front-end of amps and push your pedals into new territory, these pickups really pack a punch! These aren’t just for scorching rock and roll though, and rolling off the volume and tone will reveal a huge range of tones that are just perfect for deep blues and hot jazz.

These versatile Single-coils will fit our AT-style guitars with the classic uncovered bridge and chrome-covered “lipstick” neck configuration.

Expected 2B Value for money

TBH I haven't fitted them yet, I just had a spare bit of cash and thought I'd but a set to swap out the current factory pups from a cheap EKO Tele I've had for years with these Twanglers, but it's hasn't yet happened yet. Based on all the reviews, I'm fully expecting to be pleased.

Squier Classic Vibe 60's Custom Telecaster Upgrade

By: on 23 December 2023
At 68, I'm still out there gigging and playing real rock at decent volumes. I own quite a few guitars of high-end quality but about 7 years ago, I grew intrigued by the fantastic reviews about the Squier Classic Vibe series of guitars and in particular, the 60's Custom . The one style of guitar I didn't have was a Tele, so I decided to buy one of these Classic Vibe Tele's and the quality of this instrument just flawed me. However, the one thing that was a little disappointing was the pickups. The bridge pickup lacked that Tele twang and the neck pickup was quite dull and the overall volume of this set was too low even after adjusting the pickup height as much as possible. So, the instrument has mainly been used for home practice. So fast forward to last Thursday, I decided to shout myself a set of these Artist Twangler pickups for my birthday and got stuck in and installed them the same day. I get the feeling these maybe modelled after Texas Hot Special pickups, either way the improvement to the guitar is substantial. The bridge now has that twang that you'd expect from a Tele and the neck is loud and full sounding with nice even volume across all strings on both pickups, providing you set the pickup heights correctly and the strings lineup across the poles properly. I suspect that if the word ever gets out how good these Twanglers are (amongst a lot of pro players who spend a lot of money on well-known branded pickup sets that cost 5 to 10 times the price), these Artist pickups will start to increase in price. My advice. If you are looking at upgrading a T-style guitar to a nice hot set of pickups and simply can't justify the ridiculous $350 - $400 Australian for a set of Fender Texas Hot Special pickups or some other brand, then spend the $59 delivered on a set of these Twangler pickups. Are these as good as the Fender pickups or other high-priced boutique pickups? I don't know as I don't have them in a Tele to compare, but what I can tell you, is that the improvement they made to my Classic Vibe Custom was well worth the cost and then some.

These drive really hard

Put a set in a Squier Tele as an upgrade and was quite happy with them for what I do. My son’s band came for a few days and their guitarist borrowed the axe and put it through a big Laney amp. The harder he pushed it the better it sounded. He refused to believe they only cost $59. They ended up using it for the track in preference to their other guitars worth many times what my humble Squier cost. These are really great pickups

Great Pickups!

I purchased these pickups for a guitar I was putting together. They are outstanding. Beautiful sound across the frequency range with a clear projection regardless of where the tone pot is set. I put these pickups into a tele style body with a 5 way switch using Bill Lawrence wiring. Could not be happier with them. Great price and outstanding quality. I will definitely be back for more pickups.

Twangler

I had a project that needed a set of good quality pickups . I opted to try a set of Twanglers after trying a set installed in one of the store display guitars ( great guitar by the way). Build quality is as good as any high end pickup out there and the tone exactly suits the Tele they were installed in. Plenty of poke and I have no complaints about the clarity. As always tone is subjective so best thing to do is buy a set and give them a go. At a very affordable price I don’t think you can go wrong.

Does price define quality

As a Luthier I often try new materials and hardware when building guitars. I don’t look for brands per se but sound the guitar produces for the customers need. The Artist Tele single coil pickups surprised me for the tone and variation. Value for money it’s right up there. Is it the best? Only the guitarist looking for that sound will derermime that. If I were to compare it to a tone rider, I would say the tone rider was better balanced, however the artist pickup is more value for money if you are building a sub $1000 guitar.
