Artist Brownburst58 X Anniversary Limited Edition Semi Hollow Electric Guitar

This is a one-off model that was found in our warehouse. It has been opened and inspected to make sure it is still as New.

To celebrate our 10th annniversary, We present you with the 10th Anniversary Limited Edition, Brownburst58!

This classic style guitar has existed in many forms since it was first released in 1958. Since then it has been coveted by some of the greatest Rock 'n Roll, Blues and Jazz guitarists that the world has ever known. Legendary names like BB King, Freddie King, John McLaughlin, Larry Carlton, Jorma Kaukonen, Eric Clapton, and Elvin Bishop are among the multitude of players who have loved the diverse tones that this type of instrument offers. Now it's your turn!

This is a great sounding instrument and aesthetically beautiful at the same time. It features a Maple neck with an Ebony Fretboard. The 22 frets show off the 'Block' shaped plastic inlays and when you add to the comfortable "C" shape neck, the wheeled tune-o-matic bridge and a locking stop-bar tailpiece, you have a guitar that will not only feel great under your fingers but one that will sustain forever.

The Brownburst 58 sports our Signature Bullbucker Individual Coil Splitting pickups which means that you have the option of the warm throaty tones of the neck pickup or the biting clean sounds of the bridge pickup. When you set your toggle switch in between neck and bridge pickup you get that wonderful almost out of phase sound which confirms that this is an extremely versatile guitar that will be very responsive under your fingers. You will be able to put a stamp on all those great blues solos and wail like the greats or you could darken the tone to suit the "cool" of any dingy little jazz club.

The Limited Edition Brownburst58 will only be on sale while stocks last and won't be hanging around for long! Get yours now!

Bursting

By: on 2 October 2023
Needed some retail therapy after a dental procedure which left me sore and poor in about two days I had a brownburst58X at my door!! Been my go to ever since. I did experience a moment where I lost sound from the neck pickup though this proved to be a one off and I’m content I’ve already got my money’s worth in enjoyment. I won’t hesitate to recommend or purchase again from Artist guitars

Nearly 5 star

By: on 12 July 2023
I've had this guitar for a couple of months now, and have spent quite a few hour with it. I'll start buy saying, its hard to imagine how you could do better for the price. That said, one of the first things I noticed when I began to play it, was that the frets were unfinished and pretty scratchy against the strings. But they did play in after a week or so with out a polish, so no big deal, but another 10 minutes attention in the shop would sort this out. When adjusting the action it was hard to lower the bridge wheels, I had to loosen the strings off to adjust them and repeat until I was happy. On the subject of the bridge, I believe it would be better off with brass saddles, not the rollers that it has. This could help with a minor over tone that I have noticed. This is nit picking though, its a good guitar, and the neck and humbuckers really surprised me, I only took the one star off for the fret work, and If I was to only to review it on a bang for buck scale it would blow the competition away.

I have owned numerous guitars over my guitar playing years (50) and I have to say I have been blown away by the above guitar. I have owned many Gibson’s (including a 330 and a 335) and also gibsonsy type guitars and I have never had one so easy to get a great sound out of so quickly. This is not to mention the playability which is superb (I did have to lower the action). This is a great guitar which I would recommend to anyone!

Great Guitar

By: on 10 April 2023
I have a few vintage guitars and have been looking for a 335 for some time. I decided to buy this one, and boy am I impressed. The fretboard was a little pale and did not have much mojo, so I just spent a couple of days giving it some Linseed oil and it came up amazing. I put 12 gauge strings on it and gave it a little set-up tweak and the thing now plays and sounds amazing. Very happy with it. If I knew it was going to be this good I would have got the tremolo system with it (I was playing it safe).

This guitar is amazing quality for the price. Is it perfect? No. Is it Gibson standard? No. But...did you notice that there is a zero missing on the price. Here's what I am going to do to my Brownburst 58 to take it closer to Gibson standard: 1. Polish the frets. 2. Raise the Stop bar to reduce the too sharp break angle. 3. Lubricate the bone nut and roller saddle. 4. Set the intonation. Now the gap between my Brownburst 58 and Gibson is noticeably reduced, and I reckon I'd be on par with an Epiphone 335 at over twice the price....maybe better.

Classic 335 Style Without The Price Tag

By: on 26 January 2023
I already own one of the Cherry 58's and thought that was a fabulous guitar. The Brownburst58 X kicks it up a notch with better pickups and hardware. First off, you get Artists Bullbuckers which sound very close to a PAF style pickup. The neck feels great and has fret nibs, custom style block inlays on an ebony fretboard (the fret blocks still look and feel great for plastic). I much prefer the real wood ebony fretboard over the eco-rosewood. The bridge has brass saddles and locking tail piece. Locking tuners are also included. All this is found on much more expensive instruments. The paint is flawless - the on-site photos don't do this guitar justice. Its as close to a G 335 in specs as you'll get for 1/10 the price.

For the money this guitar doesn't disappoint! The build quality, finishes and specs are really excellent. I have had many comments from several guitar nerds who are quite surprised by the quality of this guitar! Also, the speed of the delivery and the buying process was faultless, not to mention Artist Guitars support crew who provided honest, reliable and prompt service! Keep up the great work!

X marks the spot

Finally got to break this in at a gig last night after acquiring it about a month ago. The pickups are great, growly and versatile (coil splitting!) with buttery smooth control knobs that make subtle adjustments and roll-offs actually worthwhile. I hardly had to tune up during our two sets, even with very little time to prep after a long commute and a rushed line check. I just felt so confident in my performance last night thanks to this guitar. Many thanks, AG.

Brownburst 58X

By: on 17 August 2022
I’ve been playing Acoustic guitars for over 50 years and over the past 12 months or so, I started to become more and more interested in purchasing an electric guitar. Not wanting to spend too much I had been looking for quite a while but never found what I thought I would like. Immediately I saw the Artist Brownburst 58X , I was drawn to it straight away, just loved the colour and the finish looked amazing. Even more amazing was the affordable price which at first, prompted me to think that the guitar can’t be all that good for the price. But boy was I wrong. After watching almost every available Review on YouTube, about Artist guitars, I decided to go ahead and purchase the Brownburst 58 which was delivered in 3 days. The guitar is just absolutely beautiful and I’m just in awe that Artist can produce such a high quality guitar for a fraction of the cost of more established brands like Gibson, Les Paul or Fender. Had some fret buzz but Rory W and the service team at Artist was just beyond awesome with the their efficiency and obvious strong commitment to remedy any issue. I have not hesitated in sending links or info about Artist guitars to my guitar friends and I’m certain they be joining me shortly as proud owners of an Artist guitar. Artist Guitars, you guys rock. Thank you for the wonderful opportunity to own a great guitar and for the spectacular service from your support team. A very big thank you to Rory W for your amazing service.

Brownburst Baby

By: on 8 July 2022
I have a black cherry with tremolo and didn't really fancy the brownburst but was tempted with a discounted customer returned one. After the usual lowering of the action, i warmed up quickly to this guitar. The neck is just superb and it's a real pleasure to play. The real surprise is the sound. I anticipated it would sound much the same as my black cherry given that the specs are all the same except for the tremolo. Well, the brownburst sounds significantly better! So i am really happy with brownie, the only reason i've taken a star off is because i do think it's not a very attractive burst aesthetically IMHO. I might even consider painting it one day. But the specs, the tone and the playability are absolutely top shelf.

Great Guitar, Great Service

By: on 30 June 2022
Believe the reviews, this is an amazingly good guitar for the money. You could buy eight of these for the cost of my Taylor, and that's nuts. I love my T5z and there's no regrets there, but I wanted to try something very different, very traditional, and I didn't want to spend a lot of money. This is it, I couldn't be happier. The Sunburst58X is as big and brassy as the Taylor is small and sophisticated and it has a great range of very different tones, especially with the splittable humbuckers. I haven't had it long, but the 58X feels very easy and comfortable to play, set up just as it arrived. The neck is straight, the action's low, the frets are smooth, everything's great. So far I've felt no need to fiddle with anything, except for the neck pickup which was at an odd angle, easily adjusted, with friendly advice from Artist Guitars. Which brings me to Service. I've never experienced online service as good as this before. After checking out the 58 series on the website I was wondering about the clearance between the bridge pickup and the bridge for a synth pickup I own. A chat box popped up on the website and I inquired there, imagining it to be something a "real" person might get round to seeing one day. I also pictured an understaffed warehouse stacked with boxes from China and a sales clerk who didn't really know what was in them. I didn't hold out much hope, but a reply came almost immediately - a real person had got out a ruler and measured one for me. I ordered my guitar straight away. As I mentioned, when it arrived the neck pickup was a bit wonky and I emailed them about it. Again I got an immediate reply from someone who clearly understood exactly how the guitar was put together and advised me how to adjust it, while reassuring me they'd fix it if I didn't feel confident to. It was easy. By coincidence, a power supply I'd bought from Artist Guitars nine months earlier had just stopped working and they're sending me another one. They're living up to their great reputation.

Wonderful guitar

By: on 10 November 2021
Having been impressed with previous guitars I've got from Artist Guitars I was hoping the same would be the case with the Brownburst and I was not disappointed. The fit and finish is wonderful, no sharp fret ends, plays beautifully and sounds great. The hardware seems fine and tuning stability is pretty good. I did a side by side comparison with an older Epiphone Dot and I have to say I prefer the Brownburst. The pickups have a clarity that is missing in the Epiphone which can get muddy and yet there is still a nice warmth and responsiveness from the pickups. Add in the coil splits which do sound very good and it makes it a versatile guitar that is very enjoyable to play. I might need to do a slight tweak to the action as the low E is just a hair too low giving a bit too much fret buzz when digging in but that will be easily fixed when I check the setup after it has had some time stabilising back up to pitch as it was shipped with the strings loosened a bit.

Wonderful! Fantastic Guitar!!!

By: on 21 October 2021
Had this guitar for about a few weeks now. There were blemishes when the guitar arrived, some dents on the bridge pickup cover and some paint peeling off from the guitar strap button at the bottom of the guitar which is a result of handling during transportation. Had a chat with the customer service people, and wow!!!! Amazing service, all got sorted very quickly and their response time is awesome! Back to the guitar, I like the sound of this guitar, I prefer the Bullbucker pickups compared to the stock pickups I have in my Epiphone Les Paul Ultra II. Comparing both guitars, the playability of the Artist Brownburst58 is awesome. Nice sounds overall, quality built. I do not like purchasing guitars online as well, and this is a risk I took because of the guarantees, and all I can say is I am very happy. No problems for me buying a guitar online from Artist Guitars, the other guitars, I'll still buy instore once lockdown ends. Looking forward to another Artist Guitar purchase soon.....

Fantastic guitar - incredible value for money.

By: on 19 October 2021
This is my second Artist 335 -I also have the black cherry. I bought this so I could have a guitar to play when visiting my elderly parents. After changing the strings and doing an adjustment it plays and sounds fantastic. I took it for a jam the other night - everyone there just loved the tones I was pulling from it. I think Artist do the best value for money guitars around. Just prior to this arriving I was playing an Epiphone semi-hollow and though that cost three times the price it was nowhere near as good as the Artist.

I'm genuinely very impressed

By: on 15 October 2021
This is my first electric guitar purchase, so I took on the fairly daunting task of researching similar body types, brands and specifications. I also had the restriction of not actually seeing any of them in the flesh or even holding or playing them. So how do you trust what you see and read online? You go by a combination of gut-feel, reviews and on-line integrity to name a few. Saying all this, the guitar arrived in 3 days and I was not at all disappointed in the least! The visual appeal, finish and workmanship could not be faulted, as is the price too. The sound, to my ear is impressive too, delivering an array of possibilities from smooth, clean tones to crunchy dirty tones. Love it, well done Artist!

A Hollowbody Convert

By: on 8 October 2021
About 5 years ago I bought an Epiphone Dot because I wanted to venture into hollow body territory as part of my guitar journey. I wasn't very impressed. The tones seemed inferior to anything produced by my Strat, SG or Les Paul, and the quality felt average (eg: the tone and volume pots weren't level with the guitar which was annoying). After a few months of uninspired playing, I decided that I just didn't get hollow bodies and sold it, assuming it was a 'me' problem. A couple of weeks back I bought this Brownburst58 and I now understand the problem was with the Epiphone, not me. This guitar is a different animal in almost every way. The setup out of the box was almost perfect. As for the tones, I haven't stopped playing this since it arrived. It plugs a tonal gap between my Les Paul and Strat that neither can nail. I can now see what my Epiphone Dot was trying - but failing - to achieve. This is the first guitar that has got me using the volume and tone pots consistently. There's just so much versatility to explore with every amp setting and pedal. This guitar rewards dynamic playing - light and shade. It allows you to explore the space between single pickups and humbuckers on the fly. It's an incredibly satisfying experience. Cons: the strings were tarnished and the frets still feel a little rough - I might need to polish them. But seriously, that's it. I have no intention of replacing anything else. The pickups are beautiful and I feel no need to replace them. And it's $400. I seriously cannot believe the value for what I paid - again the Epiphone was over twice that amount for an inferior guitar. So now I finally get hollowbodies. Thanks Artist Guitars.

Blown away

By: on 1 October 2021
After only playing acoustic for some time I decided to venture down the electric path and ordered this beautiful work of art a week ago. Today she came and it was love at first sight. Due to the covid back ups with aus post my amp and wah pedal are coming separately but I'm lucky enough to have a bass amp which will have to do until they come. Even through a small bass amp this baby sounds amazing. 10 out of 5 stars good work guys!

The look and finish is excellent as is it’s playability. You get those nice warm jazzy tones and then with the flick of a switch you can rock it out like the best of them. Brownburst 58

By: on 5 September 2021
Ive been a gear snob for 30 years and still own a few expensive guitars. Artist have blown me away by the value for money these guitars are. The brow burst brings my Artist guitar number to 6 all for the price of one of my other guitars. Mine arrived with a slight blemish and was literally sorted out within 30mins of me contacting them, excellent customer service. The guitar was well set up out of the box, straight neck, no high frets. I did lower the action but I do that on all my guitars. I rate the bullbucker pickups, I’m a Seymour Duncan fan and these are very close to my ear. They are slightly more microphonic on the 58 than the other bullbucker guitars I have but great for sustain or controlled feedback. I’ve recommended Artist to all my muso mates and once lockdown ends I think you will get a few orders once we have a jam at my place.

Very versatile

By: on 19 May 2021
I have two other brand name semi hollow body guitars that cost me 2.5 times more, and the Brownburst58 is on par with one and better than the other. I am not a fan of brownburst but get why it was the selected finish- it was the specs and price that gained my interest. I can't fault anything except the finish. Mine has a couple of blemishes on the top where I think the colour from the edges ran into some fissures in the wood grain. One looks like a pen mark, but it's just the stain through the fissure. I can live with them though but would have returned it if it was an expensive name brand guitar. The rest of the guitar is free of flaws. The frets are great and the factory set up was great. A lot of semi-hollow guitars have crappy edges on the f-holes, but not this guitar. Although I am not thrilled about the finish blemishes, I am still really happy with the sounds out of this guitar.

Artist Guitars Response
Thank you for the detailed review. I have sent you an email so we can have the issue with the blemishes checked. Still, we are happy to hear that you like the guitar.

I took a while to commit to purchasing this guitar. Not worried about good quality Chinese instruments but wanted to be sure it was a good one. I read as much as I could find and checked out You Tube, seemed good. I was set on the Cherry but it was not available. I agonized over the Brownburst and the more I looked at the images, the more I was drawn to it. I ordered and waited. It arrived when promised. I opened it and wow! Just beautiful. I tuned it and played it... sensational! I've had many expensive guitars and not always been happy. This guitar wins on all levels. Looks, performance and price. Couple with Artist Guitars commitment to to complete customer satisaction, I really couldn't be more delighted. Great stuff!!!

Brilliant guitar, and not just for the price. Frets are next level. I love my epi casino which has an open airy sound. Artist is thicker, piano like, articulate. Not a fault in the finish. Scary they can do this for $399. I would chose the artist over the epi.

The BROWNBURST58

By: on 10 March 2021
I think that putting up a guitar like this, at the same price as the other semi-hollow models, is a gift to any customer smart enough to catch this bargain before it runs out. How is this guitar a bargain? 1) It has the Bullbucker pickups, with split coils. The brass roller saddles. The locking tuners. The block inlays with the big X on the 12th fret. 2) The QC is exceptional here. The finish is perfect, the right elements, like the raised pot knobs, the look, the exceptionally good hardware, the playability. 3) it was ready out of the box, clearly the jumbo frets have been levelled, and polished, and the intonation already adjusted. The neck is perfect (for me at least). And the tone has nothing less than richer guitars. A bargain? Or a steal? It's my tenth Artist so far, and it goes right in line with my ST62 Vintage White in terms of quality and playability. Congratulations to the team for this achievement, 10 years and I wish you a thousand more.

Box arrived at my door 3 days after purchase. I excitedly cut the tape away to reveal a nice solid case. Impressive I though. Not as impressive it seems as the contents. I removed the wrapping and held my breathe. Not a mark, emblemish or imperfection. Woowsers. After I tune it up and check the intonation it was time to fire it up with my Orange rt35 amp. Semi jumbo frets and mellow yellow tones. Noice!!! In short, it will be very hard for competitors to keep to this impressive standard. Well done Artist.

A Beautiful Instrument that is Amazing Value for M

By: on 27 January 2021
What can I say? The Artist Guitars Brownburst58 X Anniversary Limited Edition is amazing! When I was a semi-pro player many years ago I had a real Gibson 335TDC which I purchased new in 1962, so I think I am qualified to make a reasonable comparison! I played pop rock and later club work. My family had been on to me to play again, which I hadn’t for about 35 years! I bought a small electro acoustic and added an Artist Guitars AGA 40watt amplifier - my first purchase from the company. It was very well made and was well matched to the guitar. Of course, once you have had a real 335 you still want to find something like it and so I searched music shops for replicas, eventually ending up deciding to try the Brownburst58 after querying a few points with the helpful Artist Guitars team. I ordered one, with a case, late on a Thursday afternoon and amazingly it all arrived on the Saturday morning – 10 out of 10 for fast service! The finish on mine is exceptional with no flaws - you even get edge binding to the ‘F’ holes and on the ends of the frets as standard (didn’t have that on the Gibson!). It is heavier and the neck chunkier than my ‘62, but Gibson necks varied quite a bit over the years, with the early ‘62 being the thinnest. Here it is all about personal preference (and familiarity!) because if you read the Gibson forum you will find players bemoaning that some necks are not thick enough. I am only playing this at home, but many of the tones are very familiar sounding. All in all its exceptional value and I am enjoying reliving my glory days without paying a fortune!

Terrible Quality

By: on 23 January 2021
I was given 2 terrible excuses for quality control had high hopes but no if you get your first one with any problems get a refund and buy an actual es 335

Artist Guitars Response
Hello Jack. I am really sorry for what you have encountered. I assure you that we are assessing the guitars for the mentioned faults. Both guitars, with 1 already returned and the other which is on the way back will be thoroughly assessed and if the quality is definitely not up to par with our standards, we will be raising it up with our quality control and factory. Lastly, I can assure you that you have been sent the strings that you have asked for as compensation.

Very Happy

By: on 7 January 2021
After some delays with shipping, although I must add that both the couriers and the team at Artist guitars answered my emails promptly, my guitar arrived in perfect condition. I am a complete beginner and have never owned a guitar before so I am unable to compare with other guitars but for me the quality of finish was excellent. After careful scrutiny I did not find one blemish. The sound of the semi hollow was perfect for my taste and coupled with the NUX Mighty 8BT gave me a huge range of sounds for the variety of music I like (Johnny Cash to Red Hot Chilli Peppers and anything in between). More than happy with my purchase.

Amazing Guitar

By: on 3 January 2021
The Good: Unbelievable value for money, a beautiful playing, beautiful looking, beautiful sounding guitar that in any other brand you'd be paying at least $1,000AUD for. The highlights for me are the ebony fingerboard at this price point, and those incredible, coil splitting, bullbucker pickups. It's the best sounding electric I own. The Bad: A very slight imperfection in the clear coating on the back of the guitar, and the locking tuners are really not that amazing. There is noticeable string slip when tuning up or down and this guitar doesn't hold tune any better than my guitars that don't have locking tuners. The UGLY: The guitar is fantastic, the delivery wait was awful. Charged out on 3/12 the couriers got the guitar to me on the 23/12, three frickin weeks from it leaving Artist guitars, when I only live a few hours drive from the Sydney showroom on the mid north coast (Old Bar specifically). I would strongly suggest Artist guitars cans the promise of free delivery if it means they can use a better courier service that can guarantee delivery in a timely fashion.

Brownburst 58 X

My first semi hollow electric; so wasn't sure what to expect. Picked it up from the customer return section; in perfect condition with case. Plays well, looks amazing. The construction is solid and the finish pretty much perfect. The locking tuners work a treat. The 'bullbucker' pickups are fantastic - from warm jazz tones to twangy country stuff, there's not a bad sound in them. The coil splitting option gives you twice the variety. I purchased this mainly for playing blues but it will easily suit a wide variety of genres.

Brownburst X Anniversary Guitar

Finish - excellent. For the price, this guitar is brilliant. Looks and sounds great out of the box. Neck feels good, action and intonation good. A couple of minor complaints - There doesn't seem to be a lot of adjustment on the tone pots. It only needs to be backed off very slightly to drastically change the tone, and then from there on the tone doesn't seem to change much when backing them all the way off. Also, the bridge has a loose retaining screw which can't be tightened down as it bottoms out on the machined shoulder. I seem to rest my hand against it when playing and it rattles a bit. I will probably fit a thin washer under it to take up the slack. Apart from those minor issues, this guitar is a bargain and I'm looking forward to using it live. At the moment, it suits me better than my Fender 72 thinline reissue for the type of stuff I'm playing, and sounds great for the warm mellow tones that I'm after.

Owning an American Professional Series Strat as a point of reference, to say I'm impressed with the Artist 58 Brownburst for the sum of $A399 would be an understatement. After spending a bit of time tuning and giving the guitar an inspection with a fine tooth comb, about the only complaint I could make was a minor imperfection on one of the pot controls and that the supplied strings were "mildly" corroded and were in need of immediate replacement. Other than that the finish is perfect. Plays beautifully, and sounds fantastic. Love the bullbucker splitcoil pickups.

So Nice

I am fairly new to playing so my knowledge is very limited. I recently received the BB58 and not being sure what to expect for the cost but WOW. The looks, the feel, the finish how do you do it Artist. This thing is simply stunning, sounds great, absolutely recommend this beauty. You need one.

Hallow body sunburst guitar

By: on 22 August 2020
I see on peoples reviews how they are blown away buy the price and quality of Arrtist guitars. I also full under this category. I have always been a Fender guy owning high end teles and strats. I purchased the Hallow body Sunburst guitar from Artists Guitars because I’ve been interested in owning one but didn’t want to fork out big cash on a guitar I may not use regularly. I too was blown away when it came for the quality it looked for the price. Then when I played it WOW it sounded fantastic. It’s been my go to guitar which worries me because I forked out shit loads of money for Fenders. Dame you Artist guitars keep up the great work you’re doing

Very, very good

Very high value for money. I have minimal experience with humbuckers and 335 type guitars but the sound of these humbuckers are very, very good. I never thought a 335 type guitar would offer so much variation in tones - and I'm not even talking about the split coil sounds yet. I play mostly clean through affordable but decent home gear. I have a cheap but decent Strat stye copy (Aria STG-003) but was after thicker, smooth cleans hence I took the leap and bought the Brownburst untested. I've avoided online guitar purchases - this is my first. Make, feel, finish are superb but I take off one star for the unpolished (?) frets - when you bend the unwound strings, you hear creaking and feel some roughness or friction between the string and the fret. But they're minimal (much much less than a Tokai Legacy 335 I tested in a music shop) and are not a deal breaker. Its just that my much cheaper Aria had smooth stainless steel frets out of the box, as did all the other other electrics I had owned in the past. No string buzz. Intonation is spot on. Action is good - not too high or too low - suitable for me for the styles I play. The neck is a bit fat and wide compared to my Aria (I have small hands) but still very playable for me. No sharp fret ends sticking out. No dead spots on the fretboard. The back is curved too! Even the f-holes have binding. Tuners are 'locking' - still exploring. Weight and size were a major concern for me even if I play sitting down mostly but I am pleased that it's not that heavy. Its comfortable for me sitting down. Overall, its a lot of guitar for (to me) a reasonable amount of money.

Brownburst X Anniversary Guitar. Remarkable value

This Brownburst X Anniversary 335 Guitar is really much better than I expected for $400. It plays great straight out of the box. The hardware quality and finish are very good.

No brainer!

Well done Artist Guitars. This guitar plays beautifully right out of the box. At $399 or, $498 with a good quality hardcase, you can't go wrong. I'm very pleased with it... "a no brainer" ...

Way beyond my already high expctations

By: on 25 June 2020
Previous reviews had my expectations fairly high. But I didn't expect this quality for $488 WITH the hard case option. Quite simply an incredible bargain for such a quality finish and solid build. I play this through a vintage early 1960's Fender Princeton amp - straight - no pedals to adjust tone (bar a reverb.....) superb warm sound - with plenty of tonal variations due to pop up split coil volume controls. The set up straight from factory suited me very well - no adjustments needed for my finger style picking and my "Wes Montgomery" ish thumb and finger strumming. If you are of similar style I recommend upping the string guage to .11 guage (D'Addario Mediums) - they gave me better tone and tension. (up from the .10-46s supplied which I found just a little thin toned and light) Also the nut has quite sharp edges - and I found that certain first fret chord shapes saw my index finger chafing on the sharp edge of the nut near top E string. Judicious gentle rounding with a light nail file soon solved that very minor issue ! But this is no serious criticism....Sure, Artist Guitars, get that nut smoothed out a bit on the edges for future models......but I am thrilled with this guitar. I dont know how "limited" the Sunburst edition will be as I see AG are ordering more in...... Yes, there's sure to be a difference between this and a vintage Gibson at 10 times the price - but I wager the difference is smaller than you should ever expect for a $400 guitar.....This is a beautiful guitar to play.....Buy with confidence. Wow, now that's a guitar

Little bit of a set-up (or not, depending on your preference), quick tune and your away. And what a nice sound this one has, in humbucker or split coil mode, or any combination thereof, this guitar's versatility is unrivalled. Feels really nice and solid in your hands, nicely balanced, good weight, just overall a quality instrument. Attention to detail in the finish is real eye candy, I love the look of it when I'm playing it, or just looking at it sitting in the guitar stand. I have in recent times purchased 8 Artist guitars and this one is my favorite.... well this and the LP59CSB (you gotta check that one out too). If you are wandering whether to buy an Artist guitar or one of the other popular Australian brands beginning with an "H", go for Artist guitars every time... The other;s might look nice, but Artist guitars are better built, use great hardware and just play better straight out of the box. Nice one Artist, love it.

Being an older player and loving music, decided to buy this guitar on its looks and features, which Im no expert on. Im stil lin the learning curve and probably always will be. I reckon this guitar looks and sounds great. For the price you pay, I think after looking at more expensive guitars, this product does what I expect it to do. Great finish on it plays well, sounds great .Im happy and many thanks to Artist.

If your looking to get a Semi-Hollow, this is a no

By: on 19 April 2020
This guitar really looks the business, it's really eye-catching with bound top, back, F-Holes and neck and a great burst. The BallBuster pickups are really good, I've used the bridge before, and they sound very close to Seymour Duncan's SH-4/SH-2 set. The guitar plays really well out of the box, with a few tweaks to customize the setup. For me this was dropping the action on the high strings a little, raising the pickups a touch, staggering the pole pieces and changing the string gauge to 8-38 (if it's good enough for BB King) from the stock 9-42 and top wrapping. now to be real picky :P On close inspection, there is a few tool marks under the polyurethane lacquer on the neck where the bindings have been filed down flush with the finger board, same on the bindings on the F-Holes. The back of the neck is a gloss, not a satin, this is a bit of a personal preference, but with polyurethane, I find gloss necks to be a little sticky, but a little 0000 steal-wool will fix that. The volume pots don't have a treble bleed circuit on them, again it's a quick fix and personal preference thing. The only thing I had any real issue with on this guitar was the locking tuners, and if I could have given a 4.5 star rating I would have here. The tuners have locking pins that can be screwed all the way out and the locking mechanism serves the back cover of the tuner meaning that on the thicker strings, or during string changes, the back of the tuner is not completely closed which can let dust get in to the gears inside, I will be swapping these out at a future date. If this guitar came with quality locking tuners and treble bleeds, I would expect it to be another $45 - $100, which I would have happily paid, as I said in the title, this is a no brainer for anyone looking for a good quality semi-hollow guitar
