Artist AT53 Mustard Relic Electric Guitar w/ Hand Made Pickups

The latest in our much-lauded range of TC-style guitars, the Artist AT53 pairs the best elements of vintage guitar design with modern features to bring you an instrument that straddles the line between innately familiar and excitingly new. With a classic-looking roasted maple neck finished with a comfortable satin feel, the high-grade locking tuners and rosewood fretboard (at a lightning-quick 14-inch radius), make for a guitar that belies its own old-world aesthetic. While the AT53 comes pre-battle worn, the nitrocellulose finish, a material used mainly on guitars crafted prior to the 1970s will wear and age just as you do.

Having tested untold amounts of pickup options, we settled on a set of high-end, hand-made single coils wound by the Laohao workshop, a small team producing boutique batches of custom pickups to a frankly unbelievable standard. Paired with 250k pots, the AT53 sounds far brighter than its relic'd finish suggests! Every detail has been pored over with this one - a bone nut, copper foil shielding, a wheeled string tree and locking strap buttons are among a host of modern features that make this old battler anything but!

Artist are doing it properly

Ordered the mustard relic tele for my birthday and it arrived today. Well packed as usual. This is my 5th Artist guitar. I have sold two of them as I didn't like them. So I'm not a one eyed fanboy but do respect when Artist get it right. Anyhow, I have a collection of 12 guitars inc Tokai, Epiphone, Gretch and Guild. Quality instruments. This relic tele stands up for the most part. Likes: Light weight vs their other teles and my Japanese made Tokai tele. Amazing relic job and cool mustard colour Nitro! Strap locks. That's a $50 mod I don't need to do. Fret work excellent The pickups are very clear. The neck pickup isn't muddy. The bridge is trebly as it should be but not painful like on other teles. Would love to be able to buy a set seperately. The fretboard isn't that gawd awful eco rosewood. Win. The setup out of the box was A1. After a tune, I didn't need to touch the truss rod or play with the intonation. Dislikes: 14 inch radius is too flat. Teles are 12 inch. It's playable but feels wrong. There was no side fretmarker at the 15th fret. Weird. So it ain't perfect, but what gets remotely close at $449 AUD? There's cheap Tokai relec teles but they feel and sound like junk. Maybe a $700 Squire? But they lack the features of this Artist axe. Most importantly, it makes you want to play it. And if a guitar does that, it's a winner.

Artist AT 53 Relic Telecaster

After some initial broken strings, and tuning difficulties, it finally settled down and stabilised to a reliable standard. Lowered pick ups slightly. I was initially expecting to change out pick-ups at some stage, but very impressed so far. I am usually a neck pick up guy, but now I am absolutely in love with the bridge. This is so good. Neck and middle are good but just not as special as the bridge. Is the middle position traditionally noise cancelling on these? Because mine doesn't seem to be wired that way. Excellent feel, great vintage look and can't put it down. My USA Strat with Texas Specials is back now it's case!!
