Great P-Bass copy.

By: on 21 August 2024
Love this bass. This is the second P-bass I've ever owned. My first one was a Monterey brand, which I don't have anymore even though I absolutely loved it; desperate times and all that. But I recently needed to pick up a bass on the cheap and seeing I was already considering buying the dlx semihollow body, I figured I'd check out Artist's basses too. I was originally going to get the vintage hybrid as it looks very similar to Duff McKagan's bass, but then I saw this model, liked the potential it could have and I like black. I'd recently seen someone had modded their black P-Bass with a purple pearlescent pickguard as well, so that kinda swayed me. I figured as an entry level model, it would be good for now and then later on if I wanted to it would serve as a cheap foundation to add new parts to later. Having received it, I'm not sure it'll need much apart from a slight tune up. It sounds great, looks great, has a nice weight, perfect scale and length, feels nice to play. Everything I want in a guitar. I'm still going to swap the pickguard with a purple pearlescent one though. I had bought a couple, but to my disappointment, despite one of the 2 pickguards I bought being horribly scaled, I realised that the layout of the knobs is slightly different to the Fender version. They seem to have been rotated upwards about 0.5? Of a cm anticlockwise from the cable jack. So neither pickguard was able to fit as they were cut based on the Fender layout, luckily I was able to still get refunds on both pickguards. I've since bought a purple pearlescent pickguard sheet and I'll get a luthier to cut it out for me. So just a heads up if anyone had the same idea as me. Despite all this, I love the guitar, it was exactly what I was looking for and for an entry level guitar, it's great quality and a great price. I highly recommend.
