Artist AG78V2 Natural Headless Multiscale 8-string Electric Guitar

The AG78V2 is our upgraded and modified headless fan fret electric guitar. Building off the success of our AG78MS, we have applied various upgrades and modifications to the AG78V2 for improved performance and features. Using our customer feedback we have isolated areas of improvement and the AG78V2 is the result!

The guitar features a 24-fret multiscale Techwood Fretboard over a Maple Neck. The body has a gloss natural finish over the stylish design of this guitar, and we have made ergonomic alterations to the shape to ensure this is comfortable both seated and standing. The “headstock” (or lack thereof) has also been altered in shape, and now features a classy cut-off.
We have made alterations to the hardware also, and now include a premium locking nut and an improved, top-tier bridge. The bridge and saddles have been upgraded to ensure there are no issues with tuning the guitar and to ensure tuning stability.

Astounding for the price

By: on 10 September 2024
Ok. Straight up. Before anything. It's a $500 guitar. Expecting ANYTHING more than a quick set up, and cheap strings, and you're kidding yourself. And it's not without a few little niggles. The fret wire is a bit unrefined, and the pickups were seated a too low, and the action was pretty high to compensate for the cheap strings.... But it's a $500 guitar. A $500 8 STRING GUITAR!!! And with hand on heart, I can honestly say out of the box, I have played a LOT worse, for a much higher price. And I mean MUCH HIGHER PRICE. Like close to a 5 digit number kind of price. In the ballpark price of this guitar you're getting a plywood body, and scrap maple crudely glued together neck, and horrible honky cheap pickups that squeal with any gain. Anything as PLAYABLE as this guitar, and you're looking at over twice the price. but a decent chunk of mahogany, and a solid piece of maple for the neck? On a $500 guitar? And they even put shielding in the electronics section! But lets get to the inevetable PRO's & CON's The CON's: The fret wire was quite unrefined, and had a fair bit of visible marking and scratching. And the fretboard was pretty dehydrated, and delivered a fair bit of resistance making anything involving vibrato unpleasant. The Pickups were set very low making the initial tone feel wimpy, and had me thinking I'd have to spend some money to get some better pickups. The PRO's: The WOOD!!! The Mahogany, and Maple just work so well together providing a briliant resonance, and for a guitar that needs a fairly chunky neck, a nice balance so you dont feel like you're about to put a shoulder out cradling a neck for a prolonged period of time. The pickups. (I KNOW they're in the CON's) but after sticking a 2mm spacer under them, and brought them closer to the strings, it brought them to life, The cleans have a nice high mids punch, with a nice high end sparkle, to have presence in the mix without sounding like they're taking over. and Dropping some gain on your amp, and you'll get a grunty, rich, mid range tone with great clarity, and VERY generous sustain. And finally, the look. It LOOKS like a quality instrument. So do I think It's worth it? HELL YEAH!! Just take the time to give the frets a good polish, jack up the pickups, stick on a set of decent strings, (9-80 if you want my opinion) and you're set.

Good guitar once you fix its issues

By: on 18 September 2023
Out of the box this looks like a good instrument with a fantastic price, however the instrument I received had a number of issues, some easier to fix than others PROS: - Fantastic price - Super comfortable body shape, not too heavy - Satin neck feels great - Scale feels great vs some other multiscale guitars I’ve played CONS: - Horrible Fret buzz out of the box - rounded out heads on a couple of the set screws, had to use a hammered in TRX bit to remove then replaced all with high tensile screws - poor intonation out of the box, had to drill new mounting holes and re-seat the bridge to allow enough adjustment on the G and D strings in particular - frets feel scratchy above 12th fret After a fret dress and level, neck adjustment, changing every grub screw, re-seating the bridge, changing the strings out to a heavier gauge and doing a full set up this is now a great playing 8 string, in the future I’ll probably upgrade the pickups but that’s a personal taste thing rather than an issue with the guitar. If you have the time and skills to fix its issues I’d recommend this over some far more expensive multiscale 8 strings. If you’re not able to do the work and don’t have a luthier you can take it to I’d probably give it a miss

Save Your Money For A Strandberg

If you're in the market for a headless 8 string fanned fret guitar, turn away from this product NOW. Whilst the price of this instrument may be enticing, please do not make the same mistake as me and fall for it. At first I was happy with the product, I had unboxed it and the neck felt great, action was a little high and the intonation needed some work, but it nothing I couldn't fix (or so I thought). Once I plugged it in to my setup, my signal was drowned out by constant humming even on a clean channel. I had contacted their support team and was notified that this could have been an issue with the guitars grounding, so I had a look myself - and the bridge was not grounded properly hence the buzz. I had had this issue with a previous guitar and easily fixed it. When putting the guitar back together, I sought to fix the other two issues, the action and the intonation. The action was an easy fix but when I got to the intonation, that's where more issues arose. I had wondered by the A string (5th) sounded so off whenever I would play. I tried adjusting the saddles to find the right intonation but then I found that the screw holding it in place would not tighten. It was upon further inspection that I discovered that my unit was shipped to me with a stripped screw hole on the bridges base plate, causing the saddle for this string to never be stable. I am extremely disappointed as this guitar seemed to be too good to be true when I first took it out of the box but I guess you get what you pay for. This could have been a great instrument but your company's quality control needs some work.

Straight out of the box, this thing was an absolute machine to play. After a set of new strings and a very minor setup it was ready for gigging/recording. Would always recommend.

Amazing Guitar

By: on 30 June 2023
I am not usually interested in electric guitars. My preferred instrument is the classical guitar; I find nylon strings on the guitar more expressive. Nevertheless, I ordered this instrument in August 2022 it arrived in June 2023; what a wait! Anyway, this guitar is different, and I am pleased with the aesthetics and the potential to explore another aspect of the guitar. Well worth the wait, and the price was fantastic.

So Impressed!

By: on 17 June 2023
I jumped on the bandwagon & pre-ordered the Headless Fan-fret 8 String. Understandably, there’s a fair bit of faith you put in a Guitar Maker to produce a new release Guitar that’s of high quality. Artist Guitars have done this with style. So impressed. The Guitar arrived with more than what was originally proposed. So sleek, so well constructed, such attention to detail, and such a beautiful Guitar to play. My first 8 String Guitar! And I never thought I’d be in a position to afford one at some of the high prices that are out there in the market. Artist Guitars have not only provided an amazing product, that exceeds all expectations, they have made a Guitar that sounds, looks, feels, & plays exceptionally. I will & have recommended any Product from Artist Guitars Catalog from my experience with my new 8 String. So well priced, & such positive & attentive communication with the Company. Well done Artist Guitars.

DONT BUY THIS

By: on 28 December 2022
I have spent over $200 dollars trying to make this at least a decent guitar. No matter what you do this guitar will always fail. Bridge pins don't turn, Strings wont ever stay in tune, nor will they be intonated ever. The neck has sharp frets everywhere. Most rushed and botched job of a guitar ever. This guitar is useless to me and I can't even get a refund or a swap because I've had it for over 6 months because I've been trying to make this guitar at least functional. Not only that, but the pickups are awful, barely picking up the lower notes. I DO NOT recommend this waste of money. Unless Artist send me a new one to review in place of this botched high school project level of a guitar. I can't even use my one anymore the nut is that broken, and who ever designed the nut and locking mechanism on this one needs to be fired. PUT THE DAMN LOCKING IN LINE WITH THE FRETS! Absolutely appalled. If I could give it zero stars I would. And I know Artist will take this review down. Because they took my last one down too.

Got my guitar as a birthday gift which was was really nice. I love the look and can't wait to learn new way of playing guitar, My only gripe is that myself and everyone else that purchased MS model guitars in the last order have missed out on all the new upgraded features. Still i give my 8 string 5 stars, P.S. good quality checking GREG :P

The single best 8 string for the money.

By: on 1 July 2022
Dont get me wrong, it definitely isnt a thousand dollar guitar. But jesus, this is seriously good. The quality is beyond anything at this price point. I have the grungemaster as well and i love that equally as much. Youll read reviews about the bridge on this 8 string. But seriously. The bridge works, the tuning pegs are a bit tight but after a few turns it works exactly how you would want. Knocked it out of the park again artist.
