Good bass picks

By: on 24 March 2025
I play guitar, mando, and (mostly) bass, and while I prefer a lighter pick for guitar and mando (0.60-.80mm), I use a heavier one for bass. (Yes, I know, it’s heresy to use a pick on bass, but, hey, I prefer it to finger-picking — if you disagree, take it up with Paul McCartney! :-) ….. Anyway, I’ve been using 1 mm picks for a long time on my electric 5-stringers but, having recently started to play acoustic bass more often (4-string and 5-string), I decided to try a slighter heavier one — hence these 1.2 mm Artist picks. The good thing about pick collections is that, unlike the hoarding of guitars and pedals, your pick acquisitions won’t send you broke. $12 for 20 of these picks is fine by me. ….. I’m finding the 1.2 mm picks give me a little more “punch” on the acoustic bass when I need it, so I’m happy with these.

The perfect 346 pick shape

By: on 14 March 2025
Attention 346 shape pick users! A pack of these arrived in the mail yesterday and they are so good I needed to leave a review. I only use 346's in either heavy or extra heavy, and for a while now I have been dissatisfied with the way that the Fender picks have changed. At some point in the last decade the production moved overseas and the shape changed to have a more rounded off point. These picks from Artist are shaped the way I remember them being 20 years ago, with a well honed point that allows for much more articulate playing. I would highly recommend anyone who uses 346's for guitar or bass giving these a go.
