Artist ST62II Black Electric Guitar w/ HSS Pickups

Unbelievably versatile with the looks to match, the Artist ST62II is one of our bestselling guitars - with good reason! Featuring a lightly roasted Canadian maple neck, high-grade locking tuners, and a modern style 6-saddle floating bridge, the Artist ST62II combines the best elements of vintage design with a host of modern appointments, improving on an already classic design!

With two Alnico V Artist Wrangler pickups in the neck and middle positions, the Artist ST62II produces the kind of gorgeous, out-of-phase tones made famous by players like Hendrix, Clapton, and Mark Knopfler! If you're hungry for a little more power, switching to the bridge position reveals a throaty growl with plenty of mid-range and top-end bite courtesy of our famous Artist Bullbucker humbucker! Whether you're looking for that classic rock sound, or you're keen on some classic metal and hard rock tones, the Artist ST62II delivers in spades!

Oh boy, I ordered a guitar that had a defective truss rod. I sent it back and the replacement guitar also has a defective truss rod. My review was about the replacement guitar still being defective. In response to my review of the replacement guitar, Artist Guitars responded with: "I can see that our experts have sent you a replacement guitar and they have carefully checked this before sending it out...". Like I said, the replacement guitar still has a faulty truss rod. Did you not follow the events? The 'expert' obviously isn't an expert.

Artist Guitars Response
Hi Mike, I am sorry if the replacement guitar did not work for you. I have sent you an email regarding an exchange or a refund. Please rest assured that we've got you covered no matter what. Just let us know how we can resolve this for you. We look forward to your response soon. Thank you!

Great guitars but poor QC.

By: on 17 January 2025
I own two genuine Fender Strats and a bunch of other brands, like Yamaha, Ibanez etc. Eight of my 20-something guitars that I own are Artist Guitars. I worked in the music industry for 25 years and I've been to most of the big guitar factories globally. I bought the 8 Artist guitars because their factory manufactures outstanding guitars that can rival, Korean, US and Indonesian guitars - except for the poor QC. While I'm happy to do minor repairs myself, a beginner will not know how to deal with sharp frets, missing tools or a defective truss rod. The guitar I got had a ceased/defective truss rod. I sent it back. Although Artist guitars claimed that the truss rod on the replacement guitar was working, it is also a dud. Four of the 8 Artist guitars I own had issues. Artist has always immediately rectified and/or sent replacement parts. I very much appreciate this exceptional customer service. But for crying out loud, Artist's own staff don't even know how a truss rod works as the replacement guitar is equally as defective. It's most likely that the factory didn't remove the saw dust from the truss rod routing before inserting the rod. The saw dust is now clogging the thread so that the nut won't turn. If I turn too hard, I might thread the rod and break it. That's not good enough! Having to turn and jerk a truss rod like a maniac will only destroy the thread of the truss rod. We know that the factory can manufacture fantastic guitars but they fail at quality control - and so did Artist's staff by claiming that this truss rod was OK when it wasn't. Get your QC under control and stop sending out junk. If you can do that Ian, you might have a chance of survival in this me-too business you're in.

I would have loved to give it 5 stars, but... I'm

I ordered this guitar on 23 Dec 2024. I know that if you order something around Christmas time, that delivery could be delayed. However, because we live in the 21st Century, and because of efficiency gains in the freight/transport industry, these things no longer happen, right? In Artist Guitar's delivery instructions field, I wrote: "Please DO NOT use Couriers Please (or any other courier for that matter). Please use Australia Post!". Instead of following my instructions and using Australia Post, Artist Guitars used Aramex, formerly Fastway. According to Artist's tracking, the guitar was collected on 24 December 2024. It reads: "Our courier has picked up your parcel from the sender". Since then, and as at 7 January 2025, the parcel is still sitting on Castlereagh Street in Sydney. It's been immobile for 15 days. Last week, Artist guitars called me to explain that the parcel was only collected on 31 December 2024 and that because of the holiday period, there's a wee bit of a delay. Perhaps, but the tracking site still reads: "Estimated delivery 31.12.2024". The information that Artist Guitars gave me differs from the information displayed on their own tracking system. It still reads: "Our courier has picked up your parcel from the sender. You will receive updates as your parcel moves through the delivery network. However, tracking still shows it at Castlereagh Street in Sydney. Aramex also merely states: "In transit". Never the less, I have two points to make: 1. I am about to retire and leave the country. I have already packed most of my music gear to freight overseas. It's a one-way trip. But guess what? I've had to delay packing because the Artist guitar hasn't arrived yet. I even ordered a plastic hard shell case late last year so that the guitar will be protected when transported on pallets. My music gear will be sent six weeks ahead of my own departure. But one guitar is holding up everything - the Artist ST62II Black Electric Guitar w/ HSS Pickups. 2. It's not like the 70's or 80's anymore. Shops, hospitals and couriers don't shut down over Christmas completely. Even I've been back at work since last week. Usually, couriers employ more staff during busy times, and leave during major holidays is discouraged. Yet, every year the same nonsense and delays. Since items I ordered on eBay (on and after Christmas) have already arrived from Sydney and elsewhere, there's no excuse for Aramex (again) to temporarily lose or misplace this guitar (or whatever the current fav terminology is). I cancelled an order from Melbourne in October last year after waiting for a month for a no-show by Aramex. In fact, I've cancelled half a dozen deliveries by Fastway/Aramex over the years because they tend to lose things in their 'independent network'. If it hasn't been scanned, let's face it, it's either lost or stolen. That's the cold hard reality and a customer shouldn't have to stand by and wait while this thing plays out. Expecting me to wait indefinitely demonstrates that freight forwarding doesn't work. It's mind-boggling that with all the software, AI and progress in transport automation and tracking that parcels are lost (oops misplaced) on a regular basis. I'm not going to postpone or cancel my flight for a guitar - certainly not this guitar. My Fender Strats and 15 other guitars, amplifiers and effects are already safely packed, and in the next few days, I will send off all my guitar gear. As I already own a bunch of Artist guitars, I know that they are pretty decent for the price. I wanted to give this one to my nephew as a gift. He wanted a particular guitar in black with HSS configuration. However, I may now have to bite the bullet and buy him a Fender Stratocaster instead.

Artist Guitars Response
We are sorry if there have been delays in having your order delivered to you. We have checked the tracking and the parcel is still on its way to you although there are delays. The order was placed last December 23 and because of the holidays, there has been a higher than normal volume of parcels in the network than anticipated. With the advancement of technology in logistics eCommerce and online retail has had a boom which has contributed to more parcels being in the network. Also, for guitars, we are unable to ship them using Australia Post. This is due to the new dimension limit on parcels accepted by Auspost. We can assure you that we are following this up and we will ensure that your order gets delivered to you.

I finally bought myself an Artist guitar....All the 5star reviews are completely spot on,,..Ive had various Strats over the years with "neck rise" slightly common with double cutaways ,but not this guitar it plays crisp and clean all the way to the 22nd fret ,absolutely beautiful neck..No fret buzz anywhere, it's a guitar that inspires as u play..My only negative is no tone control for the bridge PU but it's an easy mod for a friend to do..I'm going to sell my other hybrid strat with Fender Player PUs and get the Falcon next..Cheers Artist Guitars..

Unbelievabe

By: on 14 June 2024
I have never bothered writing a review before but this time I had to. I received the guitar within two days which was awesome considering I love on the south coast. Over the years I have bought quite a few products from artist but this one takes the cake! The paint work is not brilliant admittedly( orange peel) and it even had a small chip on it, but for 330 dollars I am not too concerned. The frets are polished (which is a first). This hurts to say but the guitar sounds better than my fender Strat American pro haha. I have never had a Strat that has had so much sustain. The whole guitar vibrates when you play it, it feels alive. I am seriously over the moon with this guitar. The roasted maple neck feels great and the humbucker sounds great too. Seriously get yourself one of these things. Sure there may be a few blemishes but who cares when it sounds this good. Oh side note, action for me was nice and low and intonation was perfect. Strings are ok but I'll just put my favourites on in a few days. 5 stars is too low in my opinion. I will be selling my fender.

Another beauty

By: on 11 March 2024
I ordered this one on behalf of the high school music department I work for. First observation is the solid weightiness of the guitar. Finish looks great, but aesthetically I would have preferred cream single coil pickup covers with the cream scratchplate... not a big deal. I was particularly excited about having the HSS versatility seeing as this was going to be a student guitar. Single coils do what you would expect, and the bullbucker is great - good body both clean and dirty. Lastly, the roasted maple neck feels amazing and it certainly is pretty to look at. I have done no setup straight out of the box, and after a day in students' hands I'm hearing that this was indeed a good choice. Buy one!

Insane spec for the price!!!

By: on 12 January 2024
I've been playing my Artist ST62II for a couple of weeks now (you somehow managed to ship it within a week during Christmas season, unreal!) and I can't believe the quality of the instrument. Hardware is great, pickups sound awesome, and the roasted neck is comfortable. Even the trem block is big and solid! No sharp fret ends, badly cut nuts or mile high action like you'd expect for an instrument at this price point. I've already thrashed my Artist TC59 on a small tour playing in a hardcore band and it went toe to toe with all the other big name guitars the other bands were using so I'm an absolute Artist devotee at this point! The ST62II will now be my main stage guitar and I look forward to tearing it up alongside Sick of It All and Guttermouth in the coming months, let's gooo!

What a strat!!

By: on 13 December 2023
I can’t recommend this guitar enough for the price point. I seriously doubt you’ll find a strat that feels and sounds as good as this for under $700. This thing is already on a bunch of tunes I’ve produced for different acts and that’s not about to change anytime soon. Love it.

What can you say

By: on 2 November 2023
Just bought this guitar on the weekend and it arrived Thursday to western QLD, not a bad effort. Opened the case, plugged it in and tuned it. This thing plays just as good as the guitar it emulates, it sounds so good I will be leaving my F guitar in it's case and use this one. The humbucker sounds better at mid volume, clear, crisp and totally rocks. I don't know who designs your pickups but whatever you do DON'T fire them. I have 6 Artist guitars now, bringing my total to 35. If you intend to gig you can't go past Artist, they have some of the best guitars for EVERY situation and won't break the bank. As a small collector they will stay in the family for generations to come, Quality construction, great sounding and a joy to play.

Artist ST62IIBK Guitar

By: on 4 February 2023
I had already bought the Artist ST62 White Guitar I was thinking of the LP59GT90 but I changed my mind and went for the ST62IIBK instead and I'm glad I did the ST62IIBK is amazing with a great sound from the Bullbucker Pick Up combined with the Single Pole Pick Ups the neck is a little chunky compared the St62 White but it still feels really comfortable, the finish and quality is as good as the ST62 White, I may go for the Cherry 58 Semi Hollow next time. Give the ST62IIBK a whirl you won't be disappointed.

Artist - ST62II BK

By: on 11 December 2022
I already have the Artist ST62 in white & now I have the black one. Same guitar, sort of. No, no it's not, this is a very different guitar & I am glad to have both because of those differences. This black one has a gently roasted maple neck that is a joy to hold & play. That feeling translates to a greater comfort level for the player. The bridge is a step up from the usual with a solid mass string block & two pin pivot system that makes those modulations smooth & precise. That neck though, the neck is from another world seemingly - medium jumbo frets with no flaws, level & smooth. The roasted maple has a warm caramel look & feels like a comfortable, well-worn vintage instrument but of course it is new. A BullBucker in the bridge position & Wranglers in the other two positions - fantastic high quality. The guitar I received had the intonation set correctly & the action is just the correct height [people often mistake 'twang' for action that's too low] & very nearly in-tune. Happy to make room for another Artist guitar. {Gerard, Port Kembla].

Artist black modern st

By: on 1 April 2022
I was trying to choose between the modern and the relic and was presented with the opportunity to get a returned guitar. This neck is fantastic,I would have chosen relic but for the fret board. I prefer maple. Pickups are really good and although I probably wouldn't go for a humbucker usually this is far more useful than a squier California that I own, difference in output is not overly noticeable ,tonally yes but not volume. Finish excellent and somehow the pickguard colour suits better than my white st. Chalk up another win for artist

Killer guitar

By: on 2 November 2021
All pro, no con. If you're after a modern Strat, this one's for you. The only thing I did to make it play how I want is drop the bridge trem from 3mm to 2mm so the action is how I like it- lower than Barry White's vocal range. Took me about 45 seconds. While this guitar won't be replacing any of my high end guitars, it's such a treat to play and that neck is probably the second best I own- can't beat my actual Strat but this is close. So close. The only thing about this guitar that would make it nicer is to match the pickup plastic colour to the guard but that's just really nitpicky considering how great it sounds and plays.

Great Guitar

By: on 5 October 2021
Had this for a few weeks now and my other guitars are being neglected. Loads of fun to play. Well built and feels great in the hands. The neck took me a few days to get totally used to but no complaints here. It's my first guitar from Artist and the quality is really outstanding. Very happy.
