Artist AMS6 Natural Headless Multiscale 6-string Electric Guitar

Similar to our AG78V2, our AMS6 has been developed with ergonomics, precision and premium quality in mind. The AMS6 is our first headless, fan-fret multiscale, 6-string electric guitar. Building off the success of our original AG78MS and using our customer feedback, we have created the AMS6 for improved performance and modern features, now as a 6-string!

The guitar features a 24-fret Techwood Fretboard over a Canadian Maple Neck. As a fan-fret multiscale guitar, the high e scale length is 24.75" and the low E has a scale length of 25.5", allowing for easy alternate tunings whilst maintaining string tension across the fretboard. The neck also has a 43mm bone nut and a dual-action truss rod, with top-end nut access for easy adjustability.

The Mahogany body features a rear-mounted output jack and shaped ergonomic carve, and the guitar is exceptionally comfortable to play in a standing or seated classical position. The twin black Bullbuckers are the ideal choice for expressive tone, with enough character to handle fusion and enough output for heavy genres also. With simple black controls and 3-way switch, this guitar is built for speed and reliability. We ensure tuning stability with our improved bridge and adjustable saddles, with new machine heads that allow easy fine-tuning.

It’s okay

By: on 3 August 2024
It’s okay. I just received it today. The bridge pickup didn’t work. I had to do a bit of resoldering. I bought a customer returned model. It’s definitely not as good as the other Artist guitars I have bought and I have bought quite few. This one felt cheap. Not really happy I had to fix a few things to get it to work and for a $400 guitar that is not great. I would say avoid this one. You can buy the Tele models they sell for much cheaper and they are a lot better than this. Yeah. My first disappointing buy from this company.

Bridge Problems?

By: on 30 June 2023
Both the neck and the body of the guitar are very nice, the electronics are all great and feel pretty solid. However like other reviews have said the frets have not been fully finished unlike on my other artist guitars. From what I can tell online about the bridge there is a locking mechanism for the bridge saddles at the top however these are incredibly difficult to get to without removing the bridge humbucker, as well as being incredibly finicky in general (more just a problem with this type of bridge I think). The bridge saddle on my B String was coming loose with light bends and finger/hybrid picking, as well as making an audible rattle. This same problem was present on the A string as well though not to the same degree, though the high and low E didn't seem to move at all. They told me this was part of the design when I asked. No problems with the customer service from Artist and they were quick to offer a return/refund. I'd just like to note the couple of issues I had with it, for anyone thinking about getting one. The score is more reflective of the problems (I) had with the bridge more than anything else.

Highly Recommended…! I absolutely love it.

I didn’t NEED another guitar, but I loved the look of this one and I’d never played a multi-scale. FYI – you don’t need to change technique at all when playing this – not that I’m a shredder. I was initially hesitant to buy because the neck is not a thin “shredder” neck – like the SS87 (which will likely be my next purchase); however the neck is absolutely ideal (not thick) and it plays beautifully all the way up the fret board. The set up was perfect after a few minor string adjustments. The sound is brilliant and playing this is FUN…! It is definitely my new favourite guitar.

Don't be put off by the weird shape

All round a very good guitar at a great price, but I'll start with the negatives. It's too small for the standard case, and it can move around in there so be careful. Frets were filed but not smoothed down with the ultra fine sandpaper, so bends are a bit scratchy. Intonation needed adjustment. String height is just a little higher than I prefer. It's a shame there's no coil split because I love that on the TC59. Now the positives. Bull-bucker pickups sound beautiful and have heaps of dynamic response. The fanned frets are barely noticeable so you don't need to worry about changing technique. The fanned angle of the saddles actually makes it really comfortable to palm-mute all 6 strings simultaneously. Strap-pin placement is good so the guitar sits just right with a strap pulled up high. Very ergonomic to play. No head, so the neck doesn't want to dive down. I find myself wanting to play more often because it's easier to hold and walk around with - the strap is your friend. Output jack is in a good spot out of the way. The string tuners aren't stiff like they were on the old headless 8-string model that they discontinued, and the saddles adjust with a hex key, unlike the old model that just moved by itself. The zero-fret and nut appears to be better than the old model. I reckon it'd be ideal with HSS pickup configuration. I gave it a 4, but once I give it the TLC it deserves it'll be a 6-star guitar.

Artist AMS6 Headless Electric Guitar

Ordered guitar Monday 8th May and received Thursday 11th May in Tasmania, got to be happy with the prompt delivery. Guitar and case arrived in pristine condition. Read all the reviews on this guitar before purchasing and have to agree that for sheer quality and value this guitar ticks all the boxes. Setup and intonation was great straight out of the case, only had to tune it. Will probably lower the action a tad but that's only personal taste. Great service and product Artist Guitars highly recommended. Now back to playing, can't put it down. DaveO.

Finish is excellent, appearance is great. Love the satin finish neck and smoky dark fretboard. Everything works well. Headless bridge tuners are new to me but these seem very stable. Humbuckers sound good. Usually have to tweak something but not this time, perfect setup on delivery. Very comfortable to play, brings out the couch potato in me. Bargain price - thanks!

Awesome guitar!

I really like this little headless guitar and I'm glad I got it. It's so light, small and comfortable to hold and play, both seated and standing. I think it looks good too. I'm not a shredder but find the guitar visually interesting, modern looking, yet with the mahogany body it still has some natural charm. The fan frets are easy to adjust to. The multiscale works well - nice deep bass notes, easy to bend high strings. The flattish fretboard is nice too. Works well for bending and even slide playing is easier on this 350mm radius. There was some residual raspiness on the tops of the frets - from where they have been levelled but not polished afterwards. But this is resolving itself pretty quickly. There is no fretting out anywhere and no string buzzes. It's set up perfectly and plays perfectly. The tuners are easy to use and it stays in tune nice and solidly. The Bullbucker pickups are surprisingly good. Clean and clear - which is good because you can always add dirt. The neck pickup is bright and clear, not muddy at all. The Tone pot works well and is useful. The Volume pot also has a nice throw. It cleans up well when you drop the volume and has a nice snarl on 10 - on both pickups. The middle position is almost Strat like quacky - great for rhythm playing and even lead with the 2 pups blended. Overall I'm enjoying using this. There's nothing I don't like about it! It's a great practice guitar. It sounds a bit quiet unplugged - still useful but not as resonant as my Strat or LP's. But plug it in (I'm using wireless) put a lightweight strap on it, stand up and rock out.
