Artist EB2 Black Electric Guitar w/ Humbucker Pickup

The Artist EB2 might be our entry-level budget guitar but it definitely offers a little more than the price would suggest. It is a full-size electric guitar that is based on our popular AS1 series. If there is a word that would describe the EB2 it would be simplicity.

Not only is it a guitar that maintains simplicity in design and build quality but also in its electronics. Sporting a single humbucker in the bridge position and controlled by a single volume knob the EB2 is not only a cool little lead machine but it can also cover more mellow tones when required. Add to this a very comfortable modern "C" shape neck and you have a great entry-level guitar at a budget price.

Something else that is worth mentioning is the fact that the body is routed for a HSS 3-way pickup system which may be useful moving forward if you are looking to hotrod your EB2 post-purchase.

There are no accessories included with this guitar.

Artist EB2

By: on 12 November 2024
At first i was skeptical as this was a very cheap guitar - what I found was the electronics and humbucker are great - i swapped in a Seymour Duncan and to be honest the factory one was just as good - the next thing was tuners which are generally really bad on cheapies - however these hold tune as well - the only thing is i changed the strings to my prefered ones and rubbed the frets neck and fretboard with scotchbrite and polished the frets which made this guitar as smooth as any of my expensive guitars - this is a no brainer for any cheap guitar as you have to put in a bit of smoothing off work that if the factory did will make it expensive - other then that the frets are good and not sharp and the set up was spot on as well - i will definitely get another one with the 100 dollar voucher hehee!!!!!

Excellent Value

I purchased one of these as a gift. Fit and finish is every bit as good as any other brand I've seen in recent times. The simplicity of the single humbucker and one volume knob is fantastic. The neck is chunky and it needed some (very minor) adjustment out of the box. Plays lovely and sounds just fine. The tuners are a touch lacklustre but more than adequate at this price point.

Had this EB2 for about 24 hours and I'm really enjoying it can do almost anything i put some locking tuners on it from a artist st62 witch now has classy gold Grover's so I could float the tremolo and go crazy. half turned the the truss rod to bow the neck a bit. got new strings and I'm loving it I'm playing it through a cort reverb amp and a nux analogue delay also from artist and I'm actually getting nice twangy cleans and good overdriven tones really nice my favourite guitar at the moment and it's my simplest and cheapest

It isn't too good to be true

By: on 23 October 2023
I got this guitar to mod. While I was waiting for some parts to arrive, I just tuned it up and played. What the Hell! Some string stretching and tuning, and this thing was good. But, as time went on, Good turned to Great. "Ah, the cheap block, cheap strings, cheap electronics and pick-up..." I thought... The more I played, the More I smiled. To the point, I went overboard with the 'whammy bar'... It went out of tune, but No where as much as I was expecting, No where as much... wow. Out of the box, just a tune up, nothing else, the thing is a Beast! Why are Any beginner guitarists buying anything else? The fit and finish, perfect. The neck, No fret buzz, No fret sprouting or sharp edges, just smooth, smooth playing...(tools for adjusting the neck and action are included. I needed No neck adjusting, I made the action a little lower for Personal preference, but it wasn't needed) I'm playing a $139 guitar with a Huge smile on my face... I'm still modding it, I have a dream, But It's going to work So much better, for So much cheaper than I ever expected. This is guitar 3 from Artist. I went to guitar shops, and played Many guitars from $300-$600. Some had better pick-ups, some better trem block. But none, None played better. Fit and finish, neck fretting, shape and Feel, nothing in that price range, 3 times more, "felt" nicer to play. This is a Players guitar, on a budget. You can "mod" everything, but 'feel'...

When budget means good.

By: on 17 August 2023
Bought the artist EB2 as an inexpensive vehicle for exploring the different ways you can set up a strat style bridge, and it's perfect for that purpose, it's also an awesome guitar in it's own right. Out of the box the fit and finish is good, the neck is good, the body is good, the hardware is good, my only criticism is that the tremolo arm is sloppy even when fully screwed into the bridge, easy fix with a bit of thread tape though. With the single humbucker, single volume control setup, it's basically a neat version of a frankenstrat ala early Van Halen, it wants to rock, but you can get a variety of useable clean tones out of it as well. It came set up pretty much as a fixed bridge, I messed around and set it up as a floating bridge, it works and holds tune. Under the pick guard it's routed for a H SS set up so you could fit anything you like under the hood if you were so inclined. Excellent value for money, whether you want it for parts or to modify, but I think it's pretty cool as is, and I'll be enjoying it as is, you don't need to change anything.

Artist EB2 ST style guitar.

By: on 30 July 2023
I purchased this guitar primarily as a platform to modify and try different pickups rather than buying a kit. When I got it home I gave it a proper set up and the obligatory fret polish. It turned out to be an amazing guitar with a fantastic pickup and I was tempted to just leave it standard and enjoy it. I gave it to my friend to try and he raved about the neck which he said was better than his American Standard Strat. High praise indeed. This is a fantastic guitar and worth every cent of the small asking price. Just buy it, you won't be disappointed.

So good I bought two!

By: on 17 June 2023
My son (12 years old) has friends coming over each week to start a band in our music room. We were very generously given a couple of guitars ( LP style, hardtail, 3 way pickup selector, 2x volume, 2 x tone) to use which was great, but they would go out of tune each song and were difficult and frustrating to manage for a 12 year old guitarist, with 5 different controls. I saw the EB2 and thought this may be a great solution. The most simple electric guitar. I was impressed with what I received, so much that I would order another. For AUD $139.00 it is a great piece of kit. The two guitars show the consistency of good manufacture, the neck is great, the fret work is more than satisfactory. I adjusted the action to my preference. I am considering buying a 3rd to really modify, and make my own. Great product, and really good service and communication from Artist. Keep up the great work and consumer input. It is great to see.

What a great surprise!

By: on 3 January 2023
I was in the market for a replacement strat body for my damaged old stat and this was a really cheap solution for a glossy black strat body. When I received it and inspected it, the body was flawless! Now here's where things get interesting... the neck was close to flawless and has a great profile that just fitted in my hand! The neck feels finished, with a satin finish that slides so easily in my hand. The fretboard has rolled edges with nicely dressed frets so no jagged edges to dig into my hand or fingers. Frets are typical cheap frets and have the string scratch when bending but a good polish and play will fix that issue. The tuners worked fine and the guitar held tune very well, considering it has unplayed strings on it. Out of the box, the action was low enough to make me grin but the intonation was ever so slightly out on the A and G strings. I only noticed that because I was looking for it. No problem with the truss rod, the guitar didn't need adjusting. The nut is nice with the string heights set perfectly so no adjustment needed there either. I didn't hear a single string ping from the nut while tuning or blending while playing, so, good nut! The single pickup works fine and sounds ok but not powerful. Here's my dilemma.. do I strip it down as a body donor for my old strat or do I make my old strat a donor for this one? I might have to buy another... Pity they only come in black!

Perfect Buy

By: on 21 September 2022
Have been meaning to get one of these for a few years now. Finally have one and am regretting not getting one sooner. Yes, these are a basic build. But none the less, a well-made guitar. I have been buying Artist guitars for more than ten years now. I have not found any to be a lemon. This is no exception. I love the simplicity. I wanted a guitar that was just plug and play without all the setting up with getting the sound right. A "song writers'" guitar it is. The EB2 just has all one needs to get a few licks down and save. Love it. And it's not a guitar that I will ever get too precious about (other than keep it maintained and playable). Have a scratch plate with three single coil pups that I might throw in one day. But no hurry. It sounds fine as is. The point here is that I love the fact that it is routed and completely upgradable. Thanks Artist.

Excellent guitar

By: on 30 July 2022
I bought this guitar about a year ago. It has become my favourite travel guitar. The build quality is excellent, and the pickups hold their own against NZ$600 pickups I have in other guitars. I honestly don't know how they pack so much quality into the price. I recommend this guitar not only for beginners, but for pros who need something extra to back up their lead guitars. I will buy from this company again. I'll add some advice for beginners: out of the factory, the strings are a little too far from the fretboard. This is an easy fix - youtube search "Make Your Guitar Play Like a Million Bucks". There's video describing some basic steps that really bring out the best in these guitars.

Artist EB2 Guitar

By: on 20 July 2022
This is my 5th guitar from Artist.. every one has been bang on for quality and out-of-the- box playability. Happy to say this little EB2 is no exception. I purchased it as a modding platform for P90 pickups but this guitar as it comes is so good it's got me wondering about turning it into a little single 'bucker 80's shredder. Zero complaints about the quality of the original hardware, tremolo, tuners, etc.. they all work really well. The neck plays beautifully, if a little on the chunky side, but the factory fret finishing is great, no sharp fret ends and fairly well polished. Nice satin finish on the back of the neck too. The fretboard amazing, if eco-rosewood looks like ebony and feels great under play it's got my vote. The 'bucker's fairly basic, but decent output, sounds good and cleans up nicely with a bit of volume roll off. I'd recommend an EB2 to anyone looking at getting into electric guitar on a budget, or an experienced player like me who wants a very decent platform for modding and experimenting. I honestly don't know how Artist Guitars consistently deliver great bang for bucks guitars for the outlay.. we'll done, guys!

EB2 Artist Guitar

By: on 5 April 2022
For context I'm 66 and trying to learn guitar. I was drawn to this EB2 budget model for the simplicity of one pickup and volume knob so I could concentrate on practice rather than knob twiddling. The guitar arrived promptly and I'm really happy with the look, finish and feel and importantly how it sounds. To me it's an ideal guitar for beginners and a great price. I looked at Artist Guitars after seeing positive reviews of some of their other models on youtube by Shane on the "intheblues" channel.

Artist EB2 single pickup electric guitar

By: on 14 March 2022
This is a fantastic guitar, i usually play short-scale guitars but I love the neck, perfect for my hand. The pickup is powerful and works well with my budget effects. The big suprise is tune it down to C with the fitted strings and instant baritone guitar! Amazing guitar for the price and no setting up at all, just play.

Why didn’t I buy this sooner?

By: on 28 January 2022
Unashamedly I say this:I love Artist guitars because you do get value instruments for an affordable price and this eb2 single pickup guitar is no exception.Got it from the bargain bin after months of ummming and ahhhing.Out of the box it’s playable. The hum bucker pickup puts out amazing hi-gain tone and I couldn’t believe this was a budget guitar well ahead of my squier bullet strat. The Neck just feels right no sharp edges and no fret sprout that I could notice. The tremolo arm works well but I only use to accent notes not to dive bomb so it’s perfect for that.I honestly wouldn’t change anything on this guitar it’s great as is.If you are considering getting this then yes yes yes it’s very worthwhile for modding or stock.Just get it!Of course thanks once again to the brilliant team at Artist guitars for this quality product.

Great guitar

By: on 11 November 2021
Was looking for a cheap single pickup guitar. Don't know how I missed this browsing the Artist website but as soon as I saw it I bought it. And I am glad I did. Arrived the next day. Pretty much playable out of the box. Strings have worn in and I've been playing it nonstop. I suppose I could do a setup but honestly not that far off how I like it. Neck is great, intonation is great. Once the strings worn in holds tune well. Finish is good. I really can't fault it. May put a bullbucker and a push/pull pot to coil split one day but happy as is for now. The whole point I got it was for simplicity! I really hope Artist bring out a range of single pickup p90 style guitars with wrap around bridges. Double cutaways and single cutaway shapes. I'd buy them in a second.

Great Mod Platform

By: on 29 October 2021
Having been an artist guitars customer for a veeeeery long time I decided to finally try one of these little beauties as a Mod Platform. Here we go: For what I paid, I knew I was going to strip it all down anyhow... BUT... I will say.... regardless of what you put in to this...the guitar itself is super comfortable to play. The neck is a touch girthier (yes, girthier) than the ST62 and it is a treat. The paintjob under the pickguard wasnt 100% (some sawdust got into the clearcoat from the factory) but it doesnt bother me....and it looks like 2 of the grub screws on the trem saddles were threaded (either during build or by the person who had it before me (I picked it up in the bargain bin)) - Replaced the saddles, swapped out all the electronics, dressed the frets and gave it a full overhaul.... it plays like a dream now. As for the original bucker and electronics? theyre going straight into another build ill be knocking together for a student. $129. Cant go wrong either way...keep it stock or mod it. 5 stars from me :)

Too good to for parts

By: on 26 September 2021
I originally purchased this guitar for the body to use on a partscaster. However, I played it out of the box and it was too good to strip down. The Rosewood neck has a great feel to it and after tuning, the guitar was perfectly intonated. At this price it is a perfect guitar to throw in the back of the car when travelling and you don't want the good strat to get knocked around.

Not bad at all

By: on 25 August 2021
Been playing for 21 years, teach guitar so I see a lot of instruments in my travels, and Artist guitars are everywhere I go. I've bought several instruments from Artist before and they've all been pretty good for the money, my students play Artist guitars and I haven't seen a dud yet. This one's a no-brainer for the price. Comfortable guitar straight out of the box, low(ish) action, good intonation, tuners work fine, bright tone as you'd expect from a bridge humbucker, fast neck. Feels like every other strat copy I've played, but this one cost well under half what they cost. Couldn't recommend it enough.

$99 is amazing

By: on 19 August 2021
I'm on week 3 of this guitar. Impossible to say no to a single bucker Strat. This thing is worth every damn cent and kinda shocked they're not sold out. I bought it to upgrade with budget parts to total under $99 and make it super sweet. Thus far $20 black locking tuners, got a bullbucker en route $35 (slick pickups by the way) a black pickguard $16. I play in drop C# and this guitar and stock pickup loves it. The stock pickup although not the most articulate loves some high gain and thick fuzz. The neck is amazing frets are good not terrible clean ends but look soft not a deal breaker. It looks like one piece maple and great in the hand. If you have been humming and ha'ing about getting this just stop and get it $99 delivered is incredible. I've bought many things off Artist guitars over the past 4-5 years and will continue to do so. Next up Blue Sparkle bass in October I hope fingers crossed!!! Keep it up Artist cant wait to see what's on the up coming rosters

Great guitar for the money

By: on 5 August 2021
Bought myself one of these single pickup guitars to see what they're like. And honestly.. Wow. The fretboard almost resembles Ebony. The fret edges themselves were smooth with no protrusions. The action was good straight out of the box. And the single humbucker screams. If you're looking for a great modding platform then here it is. You WONT find a better guitar for the money.

Blown Away At The Service And Quality Of This Lit

By: on 25 June 2021
I'm a first time buyer from Artist Guitars and I was a bit sceptical of all the great reviews of their Guitar range and being a player of 35 years I would say I'm a bit fussy and no what to look for but I'm TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY AT THE OUTSTANDING SERVICE ! And this guitar for the money I paid is Amazing......the fret work is as good as some of my high end guitars I have, the neck is very nice and comfortable with a great feel in the hand, the finish is FLAWLESS, the neck pocket is PERFECT ,the tuners are basic but hold their own and no tuning issues and this little beauty just ROCKS straight out of the box I don't know how they do it for the price ? SO LISTEN UP PEOPLE EVERYTHING YOUR READ IN THESE GREAT ARTIST REVIEWS IS TRUE ...... The Build Quality is EXCELLENT! .......These guys have their act together with great service and great products for the money .....I'm now a Loyal Customer and A BIG FAN OF ARTIST GUITARS ........I now have my eyes on four more models .........I will be back !.......... thanks Artist Guitars Keep Up The Great Work!

Great Piece of Kit!

By: on 9 January 2021
Guitar came with a lead, picks and whammy bar, really appreciated that. The guitar is not too heavy and has a solid body. Nothing flimsy. Sounds great once plugged into an amp. Easy to maintain and play, would highly recommend it as a beginner/budget guitar.

EB2 budget strat a great buy for the price

By: on 4 January 2021
Was not expecting this to be better than a squier. Nice solid timber and great fit and finish. Not light and flimsy like a lot of those ebay specials.

2nd time around

By: on 16 December 2020
Ok my first arrived damaged and had a few issues so it was returned. The replacement was way better however. I’m guessing someone at Artist did the action and intonation? Because it’s spot on. Finish is perfect. The neck overall was really good though the fretboard and bars needed a good clean and polish. A little bit of fret sprout but i filed them down. Gave the neck a very light rub with a super light grade steel wool so it’s slippery smooth and put on a set of slinky 10’s. The nut is pretty good though I added a bit of graphite. The tuners on this replacement do a pretty decent job. The humbucker is wound on the hot side and sounds good with a decent amp. Extremely happy with this one and am a bit bewildered as to why the other one was so bloody horrible. for the price it’s worth a punt. Change the strings and a little bit of elbow grease on the neck and you’ll have a real champion.

Bang for Buck.

By: on 26 November 2020
Firstly, any "budget" guitar should be treated with caution, particularly if the word "budget" actually features in the guitars name! However, the Artist EB2 offers so much for it's price tag. I would recommend going to the store and inspecting the instrument before purchasing rather than ordering online, they have reasonably good quality control in my experience but its a high-quantity Eastern-made guitar so you can't have grand expectations. Ask to play one, check the action, intonation and frets, ensure the electrics are all working in-store and then buy this thing. A single humbucking strat is fairly rare; at this price tag, unbelievably so. And believe it or not the thing actually sounds bloody brilliant! Its very reactive to rolling back the volume, and when turned up can really push a dialed in amp to break-up even before introducing pedals. The neck is a nice modern C shape, and the Eco-Rosewood fretboard has no finish or lacquer, but feels quite nice. Its also routed for two additional single coils, so can make a great mod platform. For those wishing to experiment you can't go wrong with that price tag. However, modders beware there is a cloth wrap underneath the finish on the body, it comes off but if you're looking to sand this back to wood it's a big job, and the alder body is quite pale. The intonation is good on my own, it holds it's tune reasonably well and I'm quite an aggressive player. However, I do plan on upgrading some of the hardware before this is fully gig-worthy. Any experienced player can have a ball on this guitar, and for half the price of a fancy new delay pedal you could have a rock'n'roll beast in your hands. Any new player has a great learning platform here, and it won't break dad's bank either.

Not that good

By: on 21 November 2020
Mine arrived damaged (dropped). The base of the body was cracked, revealing fiberous plastic or something under the black? No idea what that is?. Rubber grommet under the back strap pin is broken and hanging out, when you play it, the wood dye on the fretboard turns your fingertips black. One of the perloid dot inlays must of been raised because you can see sanding marks where they got it flush with the fretboard. The neck gets fat right behind the first fret before the headstock (bizarre), and tuners are not that good. Do a few pulls and you’re out of tune. I love the idea of an H Strat but what I received is bloody awful

Budget guitar

By: on 11 August 2020
Okay..this guitar IS a really good guitar. I took it out of the box and it was almost in tune. The intonation is surprising good..when you play an open D chord with some overdrive it is in tune to my ear...this is rare on any budget guitar. I can't find a fault with the build. I plugged in to my Artist cremetone amp and the pickup is once again suprisingly good. It reacts and sounds better than my bullbucker when combined with certain pedals. The Nux Masamune pedal for example, makes this guitars pickup sound insanely good.. I absolutely love the sound of guitars with one pickup and one volume...they sound different when you have no tone pots. I used an EQ pedal and the volume pot to find the sweet spots. If you are beginning to play, learning to modify or set up guitars....this is for you.

Got this guitar in the bargain Bin as a customer returned guitar, and have been very happy with it. Lightweight, stays in tunes and setup out of the box is good. For less than a $100 bucks this was a great guitar to do some mods on and it's become a favorite of mine to play. Someone's loss is my gain!

Nut and bridge

By: on 25 December 2019
This is more a question than a review because I can’t find the answer anywhere in the description of the product, but is the nut and bridge changeable, specifically, can they be ‘flipped’? Am thinking of restringing to left-handed. Big thanks to anyone who can answer!

Outstanding Value

By: on 27 November 2019
This is a much better instrument than the price would suggest. Arrived well set up with low action and accurate intonation. Using it through a Line 6 Helix Floor so the single pickup is not a limitation. The sound is comparable to my more expensive guitars. While sold as a beginner instrument more experienced players will find this a comfortable, playable guitar. Highly recommended.

Nice, simple strat copy with one pick-up. Stays in tune. Reasonable tone etc. Amazingly good value and great service!

Good buy for beginners.

The entry level asking price is good value. The bare guitar comes in well packaged box. Simple to tune and setup. Cosmetically well done. One minor annoyance is a plastic film on white board, peels easily and looks tacky until you rip it off. Worth the asking price.

Artist EB2 ST Style Electric Guitar - Black

By: on 28 February 2017
This a great guitar. Full size and fuss free. The same neck & body as the other Artist ST style guitars - satin finish on the back of the neck for a nice smooth feel that never feels clammy. One volume control & that's it. You are forced to try other ways to get different tones - picking dynamics [picking soft or hard - picking near the bridge or towards the neck - plectrum or fingertips]. Roll back the volume control (to 7 or 8) for a subtle reduction in the treble which is a nice variation. Very nice gloss black finish & a good weight to the body that tells you it's not flimsy. Some accessories are included - guitar lead, two hex keys for neck & bridge adjustments. Very nice, straightforward instrument that will do the job. **Gerry. Wollongong**

Solid guitar, amazing for the price.

Again, another speedy delivery - well packed and the guitar arrived without damage. Here goes... I bought this guitar to practice on, I have a decent Ibanez but I just wanted something to thrash and sweat all over when I'm not recording. Out of the box, there are three huge issues: Strings - honestly, the strings that ship on Artist guitars are... horrible. Totally understandable and expected though - guitar is $99. Setup - action was too high - no big deal but I will get into setup again in a second. Frets... fret job is totally adequate, no sharp bits - nothing out of the ordinary. But the frets have some oxidisation on them, enough on some to just call it rust. So this is the meat of my review really - the guitar is amazing value and really quite nice to play once set up but Artist are doing themselves and beginner guitar players a disservice here by shipping guitars with average to poor playability and rusty strings/frets. To bring the guitar up to 100% isn't a lot of work but I can imagine new guitar players been disappointed with what is a great beginner guitar solely because of these few issues. If you buy this as a beginner, find a friend that can do a setup/change the strings and you will be much happier with the guitar. In spite of anytihng negative I could say about it I have to be honest and say I haven't played a strat copy I actually liked but this one is great fun - new strings - fret polish (need fine wire wool, masking tape, buffing wheel on your dremel etc - you can get special metal fret tools to protect the fretboard but masking tape in a couple of layers will do usually) and it's just a great guitar. Tuners - thought these would be the first thing to get replaced - they work without issue and the guitar stays in tune. Neck - just right, no issues there. Body - as far as I can tell it's only routed for the Humbucker so you wont be picking up another pickguard with 3 singles in it. Paint is great - nice and glossy. Bridge - I have guitars with floating bridges - very unlikely to use this one as anything other than a hardtail - the saddles are good - the springs are noisy, I just put some of the packing foam from the box in the back and screwed on the cover - fixed. Pickup.. well, was surprised here as I was expecting to be buying a new pickup, in fact I have been considering buying pickups that cost more than the guitar just for the fun of it, but it's not needed. The humbucker is fine, has more output than my Ibanez passives and sounds good. The guitar will benefit from cavity shielding and better electronics of course but it's all good for a thrash axe, Being a single humbucker guitar it would really benefit from a switch setup that allows you to coil tap and also run series or parallel for some variety. Well, that's about it - great guitar, needs work out of the box. I'm likely going to scallop the frets and mess it all up but it's ok - it was $99! Artist have always been great to deal with - customer service is amazing and their returns and replacement/warranty policies are great. Recommended for anyone wanting a straightforward guitar to learn on or just a shred machine to have next to the couch or in the rack. My wishlist for budget guitars from artist: Hardtail string through body. These tremolos are always terrible to use - might as well just use hardtail. White paint option.
