Artist Cherry58 Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar w/ Humbucker Pickups

This classic style guitar has existed in many forms since it was first released in 1958. Since then it has been coveted by some of the greatest Rock 'n Roll, Blues, and Jazz guitarists that the world has ever known. Legendary names like BB King, Freddie King, John McLaughlin, Larry Carlton, Jorma Kaukonen, Eric Clapton, and Elvin Bishop are among the multitude of players who have loved the diverse tones that this type of instrument offers. Now it's your turn!

The Artist Cherry58 offers a perfect entry-level guitar for those wishing to begin their journey into the world of blues and Jazz. With the typical set-neck, this guitar is truly a "blues machine". Like the body, the neck is constructed of maple on an eco-friendly Eco-Rosewood fretboard. This wood is a fine substitute for rosewood which is now considered a highly endangered species and as a result is rarely if ever used in general guitar building these days. The 22 frets show off the 'Dot' shaped plastic inlays and the comfortable "C" shape neck, tune-o-Matic bridge and stop-bar tailpiece means you have a guitar that will not only feel great under your fingers but one that will sustain forever.

The Cherry58 sports chrome-covered VLPA Humbuckers with Alnico V magnets, giving you warm throaty tones on the neck pickup or the biting clean sounds of the bridge pickup. When you set your toggle switch in between neck and bridge pickup you get that wonderful almost out of phase sound, making this an extremely versatile guitar that will be very responsive under your fingers. You will be able to put a stamp on all those great blues solos and wail like the greats or you could darken the tone to suit the "cool" of any dingy little jazz club.

The Cherry58 awaits. Are you ready to take it on?

Amazing quality guitar that's favorably comparable

By: on 31 August 2024
I got this guitar as part of a trade. I always wanted a cherry 335 but never got around to buying one. When I received this guitar I went over it with a fine tooth comb. I was amazed to find that it had low action, perfect fret ends, slinky smooth frets and a deep gloss on a perfect finish. The guitar looks as good as a PRS SE or Yamaha Revstar. I love it.

These 58 Guitars Are GOOD

By: on 29 August 2024
I acquired an Artist Cherry 58 some months ago second hand with the Artist hard case. The guy took the pick guard off which I have since put back on. I actually swapped it for another Artist guitar. I own many guitars but have only owned one hollow body guitar before that I do like (versatile). I have been really impressed with the Artist 58. Looks great, solid build and feels comfortable. I have played a few gigs with it and it has done well and impressed some people. These pickups sound great (to me). Guitar is big (height) but I like it anyways (may not suit everyone or kids). I particularly like playing leads on the neck pickup. Great versatile guitar for playing clean or with some distortion. It does not feedback when cranked either. I am likely going to change the control knobs as I cannot read them well lol. I will do some slight adjustments, polish frets and lemon oil neck when I change the strings next. Get one of these guitars the price is very affordable and the pretty guitar is a pleasure to play.

Fantastic Guitar!

I've bought a few guitars in my time. This guitar is an absolute pleasure to play. The pick ups are versatile and great sounding. The neck and frets are finished properly. The finish is immaculate, the tuners work well. Everything about this guitar is amazing. It honestly punches above it's weight competing easily with guitars twice the price. I made a little demo giving it a jazz workout and I do mean jazz. Thanks Artist guitars! https://youtu.be/bS6Vuq90rzI?si=y5NxjqpjksnIt89B

A must in your collection

By: on 28 April 2024
After reading so many glowing reviews of Artist Guitars I lashed out 18 months ago on a Tele thinline. I have to admit to being underwhelmed by this instrument, nothing wrong with it and a truckload of features for the price, but just not inspiring to play. Playing a fair bit of jazz and blues I thought I might try the Cherry58. It came in 2 days to Melbourne packed perfectly and I have to say I am blown away by this guitar. The hype is real! The only disappointment were the extremely sharp frets which I have now filed and polished but what a great guitar, from looks, to playability to tones this instrument punches miles above its weight! I have many great guitars by Maton, Fender, Gretsch, PRS etc and I’m happy to play this Artist Cherry58 anytime Well done Artist for making quality guitars that satisfy local players from entry level to more advanced with ridiculously affordable instruments.

Hi! This review is for potential buyers that live in the Gibson USA level realms. Fit and finish is super schmick no matter how close you stare at it. To be honest I wouldn’t be surprised if it was made with lasers because there’s no “tooling” marks we fondly call the imperfections and over sprays etc on our Gibsons. This is a full weight guitar and it feels right for the size. On par with a Gibson USA ES 335 as far as weight and balance with a strap and sitting down. It’s not a guitar that’s gonna break in a big hurry. Hardware and electronics are convenient, solid and enjoyable. Check out that old mates youtube video where he compares the finish shade to his MIJ Tokai. It’s spot on. Fret board is super black.. oil it up! Inlays etc perfect.. I can’t stand when you see Epiphone guitars in the early 2000’s with one wonky inlay down at the 15th fret or something. This guitar is not that. The price is crazy.. the neck is not thin.. but I’m not sure what Gibson 335 shaped axe you could get with a 60s neck. If you’re not a high end person and this is your first guitar.. it will be something you hold on to for the memories for sure! Don’t fret (mind the pun) if it isn’t tuned up like a Rolls Royce when you get it out of the box. NO guitars are.. polish your frets and you’re free to noodle! The paint is glassy polished to make up for it. To reiterate.. when you buy a $5,500 Les Paul Deluxe any and all luthiers will tell you they aren’t ready to play without some personal adjustments.. on this guitar you only need to polish your frets (YouTube how to do it for $4) Oh and a meaty bone nut too.. it’s very much a beast.

What a great guitar!

I borrowed one of the Artist Cherry 58's from a friend to do some recording, I needed the semi -Hollow sound for one song . I borrowed a few different ones .Including some famous Makes. I Loved his one so much I ordered one immediately .It arrived within 2 days . What a peach! Not a fault in anything ,not even any sharp frets . The neck relief was perfect. After I adjusted the action and the intonation to my preference there was still no buzzing. Haven't picked anything else up since . What a winner. Well done.

Artist Cherry 58

By: on 12 January 2024
After buying 5 Artist guitars previously I can comfortably say the Cherry 58 is the best of the bunch so far. After a quarter turn of the truss rod and lowering the string height then it was time to be blown away by this incredible guitar. From sweet jazz cleans on the neck pick up to nice bite on the bridge that's perfect for country chicken picking. Add a little overdrive and the bridge turns into a snarling beast perfect for Albert Collins bite.. it bites but never shrill, nice and consistent across the range. Same with the neck, with gain kicked in lovely bluesy goodness oozes out at the slightest touch and bend on the beautiful neck. Not only is this guitar great for the price,, it's a quality instrument overall, and can easily be a main guitar uses in my gigs. Artist you have really nailed it with this excellent guitar, and I've already recommended it to several friends who are eager to join the ranks of satisfied customers just like me. If I lost this I would have no hesitation in buying another.. it's that good.. Bravo Artist Guitars!

Cherry58 semi-hollow

By: on 5 January 2024
Well above all semi hollow guitars in this price range. Been playing it at home for 1 month guitar stays in tune neck is straight action was low and easy to play. The fret work is clean with no fret buzz and electronics still sound good. This would be the perfect beginners guitar due to the price and that it's ready to play which is rare for this price.

Best Guitar Ever!!

By: on 4 January 2024
This Guitar is bloody amazing! I bought it last Thursday and it arrived Wednesday the week after. As soon as I pulled it out the boxed it was clearly well set up and you could feel the quality without it even being plugged in. After tuning it up I brought it out to the music room and plugged into my Peavy Windsor, and oh my god does it sound amazing!!! With the right adjustments I can make the guitar sound close to Clapton’s Women Tone and I am very happy with that. Overall the neck feels amazing, the pickups are excellent and the body and finish just looks magnificent! For the price of $299 it’s so amazing, words cannot describe its awesomeness. You’re just going to have to buy it yourself! Thanks Artist, I’ll definitely be buying more guitars from here!

Ah! Problem solved. 2 stars => 4 stars

By: on 16 December 2023
Hi. I wrote a review that explained my frustration with my purchase of the Cherry58 in the style of a Gibson 335. To their credit, Artist replied with an email and I called them a couple of times. Mostly they got back to me when they said they would. We worked through several ideas about the awful buzz/rattle of the guitar. I was left wondering about their credibility when I was told by one of their staff that "these guitars always buzz and rattle". No. No no no. Anyway, a couple of weeks ago I pulled the bridge, tailstop, strings off it and tightened/lubricated the pickup surrounds and adjustment screws. The neck looked fairly straight and good, but I made a minor adjustment to the truss-rod for a tiny bit of a lift. (1/8th turn release) Some of the casting/machining was a bit rough, so I filed a frw bits smooth. I think this proved to be the solution to the vibration. Lubrication where appropiate,, and I put it back together. I decided to play it before lubricating the string/bridge and string/nut contacts. Oh wow. The problem was gone. 100% totally gone. I'll never know for sure what it was, but I'm quite suspicious it was one of the rough edges that I smoothed off. One end of the tailstop was the least-well finished part. (a U shaped "hole" that is pulled onto a bolt by string tension) So ofter about 6 months (?) it's playing fine. For the price, it's great. Of course, I bought another guitar to play while this wasn't playable. So now I'll be selling the Artist Cherry58. The really good thing is that I can honestly tell the buyer that it's a good guitar. Tone is good, playability is good (I put 11-52 strings on it), it's quite stable in tuning (as much as my other 335 style guitar). My "wish list" item for it is slightly higher, narrower frets. A tech could do that with a file, but it would be nice for average players like me to have "error-proof" frets from the start. Thanks to Artist for those times that you supported me. For this star rating, I'm going to ignore the whole process of how I got the guitar I have today, and just rate it for quality and value as it is today. I assume that most people will get one like this straight out of the box. It looks REALLY good. It's nice and light. The tone is reasonable. The neck on mine is good. The price is VERY low. The hard case is quite good.

OK. Maybe I was unlucky.

By: on 6 November 2023
For $300 this must be the deal of the century if it's any good. Unfortunately, mine never played or sounded particularly good. It arrived looking good. Great paint, everything well put together. Nice weight. Not light not heavy. The action was too low, making lots of buzzing and rattling sounds, so I got a guitar technician to set it up. Except he only got rid of 80% of the problems. There's something wrong with the neck, maybe? The low side seems to be have a warp or something. One of the tuners is dry or poorly made. The sound is OK. Especially for a $300 guitar. Mine doesn't stay in tune very well. To be expected with a bad neck. I gave two stars because for $300 it's going to be basic. If it had a straight neck I'd have given it 3 stars. And if it stayed in tune as well, it would have got 4. I'm going to sell it for $50 and buy something else. Definitely not buying unseen again.

Worth the price simply to look at

By: on 16 September 2023
Wow. What a beautiful device. I'm a beginner, so I can't offer great insights into the technicalities. But, that said, it came set up well, with a nice low action for my numpty technique to deal with. The tone sounds great to me - different to my Strat style guitar. Looks and feels high quality. Well finished, good frets, good tuners. No upgrades needed. And frankly you could just buy one to hang on your wall and look pretty. Very happy.

It's Fine

By: on 5 July 2023
Reasonably good for $300 but a few things could be improved, at least on mine. First, there are a few places where the paint has bled over into the binding, and what looks like the fingerboard doing too. Second the 3-way switch is quite wobbly and moves much more than it should. Third, the wiring is easily visible through the sound hole, which is somewhat annoying. Apart from that, it's fine. I would recommend for student/beginners who cannot afford a better one, but if you can i would go for the better option.

Absolute bargain

By: on 21 May 2023
Finally got around to writing this after a couple of months. First of all, the delivery was super - made the order Monday lunchtime, it arrived interstate Wednesday 9am-ish which was great - but when I logged on I saw I had an email from Artist apologising for the delay - it was supposed to arrive on Tuesday :) When I opened the box I was a bit gobsmacked, this looked and felt like a high quality guitar, and looked even better than the photos - it was love at first sight! But I must confess a dark secret - I bought this guitar because I'm a bit of an experimenter and I wanted an inexpensive, hollow-bodied guitar that sounded ok that I could make some "augmentations" and not feel to guilty about the cost if I ended up destroying it. Well, I showed it to my buddy who is an awesome guitarist (I'm a hack by comparison) and also builds his own guitars, so he knows a thing or two.....he picked it up, plugged it in, and it sounded damn sensational - he was knocked out, and told me it was too good to "augment" and so we've taken a different path for my experiments, and butchered a genuine el cheapo guitar instead (and he's crafting a body on his C&C machine). So now I have the fabulous Cherry for ongoing pleasure, saved from doom by someone who knows a great guitar when he plays one! For the price, this is an absolute bargain - well done!

Cherry 58 - 24 month review

By: on 16 May 2023
Firstly I love Artist Guitars I am a walking advertisement for Ian and his crew. I have had a couple of very minor hiccups along the way which have all been rectified beyond my expectations. You would be crazy to buy guitar gear from any other seller. Back to the Cherry 58 semi hollow. I bought her two years ago. When she arrived it was perfect I could not mention one issue or blemish that could have been better and I am a very fussy buyer. The string height was low as I like it 1.5mm measured at the 12th fret. The playability has only got better over time and interestingly enough it is the sustain has double in time and boldness over the years. My Luthier friend says the wood must have changed over time. I keep all of my guitars in a humidity controlled set temperature cabinet I was gifted several years ago perhaps this helped. In any case I think if someone took a double blind test with a Gibson there would be little or nothing between them, except the Artist Cherry 58 semi hollow is thousands of dollars cheaper. The case that I bought it in from Artist Guitars is superb. I only wish I lived in Sydney so I could convince Ian to give me a job lol.

"I was Blown Away"

By: on 19 April 2023
My mate who lives 3 doors down came over when the box arrived. He said he'd video me unboxing it, because he wanted to send to a friend who's into guitars as well. After making the purchase through the returns bin, I rang Jason at Artist and asked him if the photos of the guitar were showing all the blemishes, and if there were any other. He assured me that was everything was being shown, and I could trust their word on that. The communications we had were a pleasure. They depend on customer satisfaction and of word of mouth driven sales due to the quality to cost benefit to the average guitar devotee, so obviously they wouldn't want or need to hide any other issues. And no doubt after this experience I will be buying again......Anyhow, when we I pulled that 335 out of the bubble wrap, we were so impressed, and so was Ronnie's mate, who more than likely to be after a 335 for himself. I can't wait to show off the "Cherry" at my guitar group too, and I know they'll all be interested to check out the Website....Good luck Artist, and keep on improving on the standard of your products, and the pricing that's so tempting to always want us to engage further in the passion. Thanks again to Jason and the team for being a great communicator of this outstandingly presented product, I think I want a tele next time but who knows, they're presenting new offerings and bargain bin opportunities all the time. Thanks Artist.

outstanding value

By: on 27 March 2023
I own many classic "brand" guitars including a number of fenders (strat, tele, jaguar), gibson (SG, les paul), rickenbacker, gretsch etc. At $299 this cost a fraction of any of those. Finish is great and plays really nicely with only very minor tinkering by me. Raising any minor quibbles would seem very petty given the cost, so I won't!! Was delivered to me interstate within 2 days of purchase. If you want a very playable, great looking take on a classic for very small $, this guitar is hard to beat. Only negative is I was impressed enough to buy another Artist guitar about a week later :-) Cheers

A beautiful guitar.

By: on 6 September 2022
An exceptional guitar for the money. I spent extra dollars to buy very expensive pickups to drop into this beast but the original pickups are so good I decided they can stay. The guitar has a fatter, wider neck than I'm used to but after a short while I started to get the feel for it and then the fun started. The finish is perfect with top and bottom binding and a beautiful translucent red finish, as a guitar builder myself I honestly couldn't do better. This is my ninth Artist guitar and my 13th overall and I couldn't be happier. Thank you very much.

My wife bought this guitar for me for my 60th birthday. (I have an awesome wife!) I have a lot of other guitars, but this is now my favorite. The build quality is flawless, and holds it's tuning well, The frets are well leveled, and the neck is fast and easy to play. It produces a range of sounds from beatles to navana, and it's light and comfortable to play both standing and sitting. also it's a pretty cool looking guitar! The only thing I've changed, is the strings. I'm very happy.

I've considered getting one of these for a while and finally did. When i took my first look at it, i was in love! The deep cherry red is beautiful but what i didn't realize was it's a translucent red and you can see the woodgrain through it. It's stunning!!! It needs a little bit of setting up as per usual, but the looks and the quality and the feel is just magnificent. The one thing i didn't like (hated actually) was the scratch plate. It looks cheap and tacky, but easy fix, remove it! It looks so much better without it anyway. This is definitely a keeper

Artist Cherry 58 trd is Awesome

By: on 7 July 2022
Hi I Have had the greatest pleasure in buying this guitar. This guitar is awesome the finish is amazing and plays like a guitar ten times its value. The only thing I had to do was polish the frets as they were a bit scratchy, The action was low with no fret buzz and very very easy to play. I even got a email to say sorry for being a day late which is totally out of there control due to the world atm. That is great customer service. Artist guitars you guys rock this is only the first guitar I have got from but it will not be the last. One happy customer Regards Brad

Great Guitar But...

By: on 16 June 2022
Out of the box, the look of the guitar is great. The gloss finish and the cherry red paint work is excellent. The binding is a little shaky in spots with some bleeding but all in all, it's a quality looking guitar. After tuning it initially, I played it for a few minutes noting that as I played, it slowly slipped out of tune. The intonation was also a little out. Good action although a smidge lower would be nice. That's pretty normal straight out of the box with factory strings although they did look to be in good nic. After re-tuning a number of times, I put it down to the strings needing to be changed. I also noted that the machine heads had varying consistency in terms of there tension, some were tight (not overly) and others loose comparatively and turned much more freely. I buy my strings from Artist and a few days later, put on a set of 10-46 Ernie Ball Slinky's (so no change to the gauge). I also tightened the tiny adjustment screw at the top of each machine head button. The new strings definitely improved both the sound and feel but it still slipped out of tune, not as quickly but still consistently. I played it for a further two weeks just putting up with the tuning issue because sometimes you just need to let a brand new guitar run in and settle. But eventually, I reluctantly decided to return the guitar. I say reluctantly because I really do like it. It felt good in every aspect, when in tune, it has a great tone and I love the look of it. But its primary function is to create music and for that, an instrument needs to stay in tune, bottom line! Artist have recently released the BLACK58IIX BLACK GLOSS SEMI-HOLLOW ELECTRIC GUITAR and I'll spend the extra $100 on that in the hope that it's a better quality instrument and holds tune. I've played other recognised and respected brand semi-hollow guitars and the Artist is as good and even better than some of those. I may have been unlucky and just got one built on a Monday or a Friday :) so don't be put off, for the price its a great guitar!

Unbelievable

By: on 25 May 2022
I am amazed. This guitar is so well made and plays and sounds great. I have been comparing it with a made in US guitar that cost ten times more and it compares favourably. I needed a bit of assistance from Artist with this purchase and they were right there. The only doubt I may have is whether; I will still be as impressed in three months' time and are the people who made this guitar treated fairly

Cherry 58 TRD semi hollow guitar

By: on 16 May 2022
Great guitar, delivery was very quick this time, one day as opposed to 13 days for my previous guitar purchase, very happy with the guitar, I don’t think it’s as good as the Telecaster style one that I bought last time, that one is something special but it’s a nice fun guitar, only thing I am not enamoured of is the dinky little volume and tone dials, they just feel too small and a bit toyish, if that’s a word. But overall it’s very good for the price.

Thank you so much for your feedback and review of the guitar. We truly appreciate it.

Well done, Artist

Sydney to Adelaide in 2 days and beautifully packaged. My wife and daughter gasped when I opened the guitar case, the cherry is gorgeous. Quick tune up and away I went, lovely sounding pickups, the guitar is nicely balanced and the neck is comfortable in the hand. A first time buyer with Artist and I'm suitably impressed. Thank you for the awesome customer service, great prices, and care for the quality in your products...this is a rare thing nowadays. Well done, Artist.

Great Guitar

By: on 12 May 2022
Artist advertised that stocks were due 10 May. Ordered mine on 6 May, and mine arrived on 12 May (today). Outstanding service. I read somewhere that the pictures don't do the guitar justice and that was 100% correct. It is a beautiful looking guitar and although I haven't gone over it with a magnifying glass, out of the box, I cant flaw it. But the best part is the playability and the sound. The neck is a bit wider than I'm used to but I have sausage fingers so I'm finding it different but not uncomfortable. I've only played it clean through my Fender Reverb so far but I am so impressed. Overall a great package. I just wish I'd bought a case with it. Maybe next month. Thank you Artist.

The perfect Blues Guitar

By: on 3 February 2022
When I started my electric guitar journey I was sure that I had to buy a semi hollow. Coming from acoustic this was a must for me. And the video from Brett Kingsman just sold me on the CHERRY58. This guitar absolutely rocks. Well, it actually really rock'n rolls and blues's and jazz's. First I was a little bit in doubt if I wouldn't miss out as I chose the model without coil splitting, roller bridge and locking tuners. But as I couldn't get all that with the cherry colour I just decided to go that way. And I'm glad I did. This guitar kills it when it comes to Blues - especially the heavier stuff from back in the days. I had to work a bit on the action and set up on this one. I wasn't used to this as all other Artist guitars came perfectly set up so far. But it was nothing complicated and all easily done. I switched to a heavier string gauge as well as I thought this more suiting for a guitar that I want to play Blues with. And it was a good decision. The humbuckers make a great sound and I'm actually not missing the coil splitting on this one. This is a fantastic guitar for a very good price. Well done again, Artist!

Purchase as a factory second, I was nervous about the quality that I would recieve. On arrival I struggled to find and marks or blemishes. Was ready to play straight out of the box. Great sound and feel.

A beautiful guitar at an incredible price.

My wife bought me a CHERRY58 with a hard case for Christmas. On Christmas Day I opened it & I was amazed at what a great guitar it is in all respects. The build quality was fantastic, the sound, action & intonation were perfect. I've been playing guitar for many years & own a number of other guitars including Fender, Gretsch, Ibanez & Ovation. My new CHERRY58 compares well with all of them.

Very impressed

By: on 21 December 2021
Having read the reviews of the guitar I decided to purchase this guitar and was skeptical of how good it could be given your looking at 1000 to get a 335 style guitar from anywhere else. The guitar arrived within a couple of days during the week leading up to Christmas and came well Setup with a low action and perfect intonation only thing that needed adjusting was one of the pick guard screws that needed tightening. Highly recommend getting one to anyone looking for a 335 style guitar.

Artist CHERRY58

By: on 19 October 2021
Brought this guitar after reading the reviews and it came within a week. Great looking guitar and played ok out of the box, but needed a bit of work to get it to a better playing guitar. Had the bridge replaced as the one installed was not up to scratch (lots of rattles), so with a new (Grover) bridge, setup and new strings plays like a good guitar should. For the price bracket these are good, but it will cost you a bit to make it a very good guitar. I'm very happy with mine now with the mods and setup.

Cherry58 replacement

By: on 23 September 2021
I had a little problem with my first cherry58, but artist guitars honestly excelled themselves with not only a perfect specimen replacement, but also the customer service and assistance I received, make me write this review. Unbelievable product for the money, truly a fantastic guitar to play and “feel”. As for the company themselves, I honestly can’t think of another company I would use for guitars and paraphernalia. Excellent on all counts, just look, drool and buy, they’re fantastic.

Impressive

By: on 18 September 2021
Very impressed. I can’t believe the quality for the price. I only bought this guitar as I’ve always wanted a hollow body but never wanted to fork out $1k minimum for one. After receiving the guitar I was blown away with how good the quality is and how playable it is, I didn’t know this was achievable for any guitar at this price. The guitar came out the box ready to play, the intonation barely needed adjusting. Very impressed and if the quality of all your instruments is like this, I know where I’ll be shopping for my next guitar. I think I’ll be grabbing an LP model next

Cherry58

By: on 20 August 2021
Initially blown away, nice looking piece, needed tuning and intonation as expected. Then on closer inspection the scratch plate lives up to its name, really poor surface, the body lacquer has some dark stains in the cherry but worst of all the stoptail has been over screwed into the block and at an angle as well. It tunes reasonably well so guess I can’t complain too much but quite disappointed overall tbh. I was expecting a little more, even for the money. The internal wiring is all visible through one “f” hole as well. Maybe I just got a Friday afternoon guitar where no one cares.

Fantastic

A quality instrument for a amazing price

By: on 8 July 2021
Quite simply, i'm astounded. The build quality of this guitar, at this price point, is simply put, outstanding. How Artist guitars can produce this type of instrument at this price is baffling. Wood quality and finish is exceptional, even to the binding on the 'f' holes.. the tones of the pickups sound amazing in all three way positions of the selector switch.. the fretboard is comfortable with no sharp edges along any of the frets, and once tuned i was surprised to discover the intonation was almost bang on, highly unusual for a shipped guitar.. the only negative issue in my purchasing experience was the courier company. Frankly, Couriers Please are the most unprofessional, incompetent, rude and unhelpful delivery company i have ever dealt with. They left the guitar on my doorstep when no authority was given to them to leave it, and after i demanded it be retrieved before it could be opportunistically stolen by a passerby while i was at work, they then gave me the run around for two days not allowing me to collect it from their depot. Artist would do well to drop these useless sock puppets immediately as their unprofessionalism reflects poorly on Artist. That being said, the customer service from Artist was welcoming, professional and supportive over the delivery issues and i cannot thank them enough. I can very much recommend this guitar, it is fantastic quality at an amazing price, thankyou Artist Guitars!!

This thing is the goods. I have tried a lot of guitars, trust me I’m fussy. I’ve owned & own Fenders and Gibsons and moved a fair few onwards but no one with pry this from my hands. They had better specially make me a coffin with this baby. Actually- I would part with it momentarily so you can experience the joy of feel and sound of this. I’m not one for writing reviews, but pointing someone toward something that will bring them joy in music and save them money is something I’m passionate about. The Cherry 58 is in a stand out gloss red finish that lights up the room, the binding work is well done. It came to me with the fretwork nicely finished and all ready to plug and play. I’ve used this on stage multiple times now- and will continue to, oh how it sings. The semi hollow tackles most genres and is probably the most versatile guitar. There is a huge amount of control that also isn’t confusing with two humbuckers, both with separate volume and tone knobs. You can have the three way switch in the middle position and dial the bridge and neck to get you that sweet spot. But I’ve got to say I’ve found countless sweet spots on this. I don’t hesitate to recommend this to anyone, whether you are just starting out or have been playing for ages - you’re going to love it. ANNND it’s that good of a price you could get one in each colour.

Thank you for all your support. We appreciate it a lot.

Can’t beat it at this price

By: on 6 July 2021
I bought my 58 w/ hard case back in mid 2017 but wanted to wait until leaving my review until I had some time with it. Then I completely forgot to write this. I am still yet to find anything that even comes close for a similar price point. Every guitarist I’ve shown my guitar to has been impressed by the tone and build quality. I know the case is a seperate product but it too is to an exceptional standard. If you want to by a semi-hollow electric guitar, this is your best option before you must resort to selling your kidneys

Awesome Cherry58!

By: on 30 June 2021
Received my Cherry 58 this morning (Wednesday) after ordering it on Friday night, which I have to say I was very impressed with how little time it took to get to Albury from Sydney. Arrived well packaged and with the hard case I ordered. First impression was Wow! The finish is just amazing, gorgeous colour too. Straight out of the box into my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe the Cherry 58 feels, sounds and plays like a guitar you’d expect to pay a lot more then $299.00. ($388.00 with case). Only criticism and it’s just a tiny one is the toggle switch feels a little loose but hey I can live with that. This is now my second guitar from Artist Guitars, the TC59 was my first one and I have to say again I don’t know how they can produce such a great product for such little money. Well done Artist Guitars! Again.

Artist Guitars Response
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review and we are stoked to hear that you are happy with the Cherry58. If that toggle switch will be a bother in the future, feel free to reach out to us!

Dissappointing even "for the money"

By: on 8 June 2021
Firstly, I had low expectations when I bought this guitar but even so...Staining from the Eco-Rosewood (Basswood bark) fretboard was coming off on my fingers like boot polish, took an hour just to clean it. Frets weren't level which I was expecting for the price point but Artist claim they are levelled. Heaps of sawdust was falling out from the F-holes. Dusting out the sawdust before putting the caps on shouldn't cost extra - that's just lazy workmanship. It's a poorly balanced guitar with the heavy maple neck causing neck dive. I have played a few 335 style guitars over the years and they are normally made with a mahogany (or similar) neck to avoid the imbalance. If you get lucky and get a decent Cherry58 it is a cheap entry to a maple-bodied 335 (next one up is over $1000) but expect to do work on the frets and fretboard and use a good strap (at least 2.5 inch with suede backing) to counter the neck dive. If it had a lighter neck wood it would be passable.

Artist Guitars Response

Serious Bang for Buck!

By: on 15 May 2021
Got to agree with pretty much all the positives that have been stated in the previous reviews! Just a fun guitar to play. Have had a lot of fun with Mick Brierley's pickups lately and the Alnico 5's in this Cherry were never going to be in that league but are still responsive and give a terrific diversity of tone, so not a let down. Surely they are as good if not better than those in competition at three times the price? Delivery was ahead of time after a back order and packing was surprisingly stable (for somebody paranoid with airline freight disasters). Set up was good, tuning/intonation good and works well with a range of Helix LT amp models in clean and dirty modes. And the Cherry finish is way better in real life than in the website pics!! Only very small picky thing are the knobs, which dont quite fit the aesthetic (yellow and a bit hard to read) but am a 4 knob rookie so...semantics. Well done Artist. Great value! Buy!......Now to look at Les Pauls and investigate the 'design your own'....

What more could you want?

By: on 15 May 2021
I ordered a Cherry 58 guitar, it was delivered by courier in forty eight hours, (free delivery). The protective packaging was the best I've seen. The intonation was fine, once the strings stretched in tuning was stable. The action suits rhythm and lead playing. The pickups deliver the signature tones you'd expect from this style of guitar which also responds well with effects including O/D and Distortion. The materials and workmanship are first class. A few years ago I owned a Gibson 335. The Cherry 58 more than compares for a fraction of the price. This is my third guitar from Artist, each one exceeded my expectations. Quality products, great service, fast free delivery, what more could you want?

Real Good Guitar

By: on 12 January 2021
,,,,if you take your time, and set these things up well. You've got a real alive responsive electric guitar. The build quality on these is great. The playability is great. The sound is excellent when they're set up well. Ive been a player for a long time, and could never really afford a Gibbo335. You're definitely in the the semi acoustic ballpark with this model guitar. Thing is with semi acoustics, when you play amplified, they have a certain bloom about them and a certain pocketed string attack. It's a very live in the moment type of string response. Hence you're gonna get connected in that moment as a player. Also with the centre solid block you get a sustain that will rival a Les Paul. The Alnico pickups in the these things are nice and clean. They sound good clean, they sound good with the overdrive on. The pricepoint here is very very doable. The case fits too. Big stars from me here.

Fantastic value for money yet again

By: on 24 December 2020
This is my second Artist guitar (the first was the Telecaster TC59) and straight out of the box it was brilliant! I have been playing a long time and regularly play in front of a few hundred people and I won't hesitate to recommend Artist guitars for those who want great value, something that is reliable and holds its tune, and yet if it gets scratched or damaged, you are not on the floor weeping! The ES335 I just got is such amazing value...easily as good as any Epiphone or other $1000 mark guitar, and I can't fault it. Even the pickups and tone is good enough as is! Seriously, give them a try, you won't be disappointed in Artist guitars! Great customer service too...I had a question, and it was answered and solved within 30 minutes!!

Cherry 58 Good Guitar Great Service

By: on 8 October 2020
No complaints from me. After a bit of to-ing and fro-ing (long story, as I purchased a customer return initially) I am very happy with my Cherry 58. It's comfortable, sounds good (to my untrained ear), plays as well or better that the equivalent Epiphone that costs around twice the money. The finish is excellent. I love the feel of the neck, even though it is lacquered my hand doesn't feel like it is sticking (unlike the Epiphones). In my experience, buying online can be a problem when you need customer service, but Artist are superb, always quick to respond to my queries (however obscure, e.g. "how much does it weigh?" etc), and happily sorted out a return for the first guitar I purchased. If you want a semi-hollow and don't want to fork out a heap of cash I definitely recommend the Cherry 58, and Artist will look after you.

CHERRY58

By: on 20 August 2020
I'm not usually the sort of person who would buy a guitar without playing it first but this one had some good reviews so I dived in. The service from Artist was fantastic. They answered all my queries beforehand and I couldn't believe how quickly the guitar arrived after purchase (four days in the current situation, wow). As to the guitar itself out of the box finish was really good, pickups sounded great, tuners seemed fine. Dropped the action a bit and it played well. After a fret dress and setup (I can do that myself) I am really happy with how this guitar came out. It's a keeper for sure. Only minor dislike (purely cosmetic) is the pickguard which is a bit of an odd shape compared to the original but I just removed it and actually prefer the look. Well done Artist this is a great guitar for the money.

Beautiful to look at, and play ..

By: on 25 July 2020
After borrowing my son's guitar and amp (you know, one of the things that he lost interest in and ended up leaving them 'at home' with the oldies, I started getting more and more interested in playing again after about a 35 year break. I'm using his amp, but the Cherry58 TRD is mine, all mine, and I'm loving getting back into it. I recall buying a brand new USA Strat in the early 80' sometime - let me tell you, the quality finish case and playability of the Artist is as good as, if not better. If you ever wanted to play a hollow body electric but couldn't afford an ES355 Gibson or Epiphone, this is just about perfect. The intonation on one string is sightly out but not enough for me to worry about yet. High quality instrument at a bargain price; couldn't be happier. Now I'm saving for the Tele (and probably the Strat - you can't have too many guitars).

Just a great guitar

By: on 23 July 2020
Read and watched the reviews of this guitar and am glad I made the purchase. Only new to guitar playing I was using an Epiphone Les Paul Special II and was finding it uncomfortable to move around the guitar. Thank GOD I came across this guitar, straight out of the box sounded really good and was way easier to handle from a learning perspective. Even got my guitar teacher to test the guitar and he was blown away with the quality of the product, quality of the sound and versatility of the guitar. Thank you Artist as I am thoroughly enjoying playing this stunning guitar.
